Head of Production
The Head of Production is part of the senior staff leadership of the School of Film and Television (SFTV) at Loyola Marymount University. This position is responsible for overseeing all SFTV productions, from planning to execution to post-production. The Head of Production oversees the scheduling of projects, exercises comprehensive oversight of all SFTV production facilities and equipment in the Westchester and the Playa Vista campuses, and is responsible for assessing the feasibility of each project, safety training and risk management for all filmmaking and related activities. This position is charged with assisting students to deliver distribution ready films.
This position oversees the administrative staff and technical team of experts responsible for the daily operations of the Production Department. The Head of Production supervises all aspects of vendor relations and is responsible for maintaining the school's facilities and equipment in peak operating condition. This position also coordinates with Film LA, the city's filming permits office. The Head of Production works closely with the Dean, the faculty and the students to help them accomplish the curricular goals of SFTV.
The successful candidate will possess many of the following experiences, knowledge, skills, and attributes deemed desirable by members of the LMU community:
• Typically, a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience. M.F.A. is preferred. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge and skills.
• A minimum of seven years of varied and progressively responsible duties in the entertainment industry, such as a track record as a Producer, Line Producer or First Assistant Director on working production sets. Additional experience in a university setting highly desirable. Ability to assist students in the development of professionalism while performing work on class projects and assignments.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the entertainment industry and practical experience in all aspects of the production process and the operation and maintenance of technical components, cameras, lights, sound recording, editing and grip equipment.
• Knowledge of film production safety protocols and risk management.
• An understanding of the creative use of film and video equipment in order to advise students.
• Knowledge of administrative organizational methods and record-keeping systems.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment in office administration, analyze data and compile reports for executive decisions. Ability to interact well with all levels of the campus community, including faculty, staff, and students. Ability to accommodate technical process problems as they relate to the equipment and facility so that the Administrative and Professional staff can effectively respond to the needs of the department. Devise or adopt office procedures to changing organizational needs. Make clear, comprehensive reports and keep accurate records. Maintain confidences and confidential information. Compose correspondence under existing authority independently. Ability to accommodate technical process problems as they relate to the equipment and facility so that the technical staff can effectively respond to the needs of the school.
• Demonstrated communication skills both written and oral. Effective interpersonal and communication skills with all levels of management and personnel.
• Demonstrated computer competency and preferably knowledgeable of production software systems. Knowledge of both Mac and PC operating platforms in a media environment, TV, and film studio operations. Knowledge of computer software/hardware.
