EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR - JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Summary
A Full-Time position, the Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the overall financial and operational health of the organization, and ensures The Louisiana International Film Festival activities, programs, board, and staff are aligned with our mission. We are transitioning from our founding Executive Director of 6 years, and seek a confident, collaborative and visionary leader, who is passionate about our mission and can build upon the organization's successful trajectory.
Requirements
Proven leadership and management skills
Excellent public speaking and written communication skills Proven track record of fundraising, donor cultivation, and grant writing
Creative, resourceful, and problem solving abilities
Ability to multi-task, prioritize and handle pressure of deadlines
Ability to maintain sense of humor and find joy in all aspects of the work
Desired Qualifications/Skills
An ideal candidate will have 7+ years of experience in management of an entertainment industry and/or non-profit sector organization
History of visionary, dynamic leadership with a focus on bold ideas
A passion for the arts, strong leadership and project management skills, as well as: Excellent verbal, written and public speaking experience, and highly-developed interpersonal skills
Experience in development and fundraising or sales and investment
Experience in budgeting, special event planning and Board management
Ability to instill, manage, and maintain culture of highest performance standards and accountability
Ability to respect and learn from team while helping to guide organization to new levels of efficiency, coordination, and productivity
Strong management and team-building skills
History of engaging in and supporting film and/or the arts
Openness to learning about and engaging with the Louisiana community
Ability to interact with all levels of business executives, community groups, civic leaders and other individuals to promote the organization
Track record in working effectively with staff, volunteers, and board members
Familiarity with donors or investors and corporate community
Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends
Primary Responsibilities
Vision & Strategic Direction - In partnership with Managing Director, Programming Director and Board, inspire and drive strategic direction and growth of LIFF in local, regional, national and international film festival, music, environmental and innovation worlds.
Industry Relations - Continue to build meaningful relationships with professionals and up and coming talent in the Industry (film, music and innovation). Build upon and manage Industry Advisory Board.
Sales - Develop a plan and implement to increase film submissions as well as ticket and pass sales
Timelines - Create and maintain festival and associated project timelines; manage team to meet milestones and deadlines
Manage team for Louisiana Film Society that hosts monthly or bi-monthly film screenings between Festivals in Louisiana
Manage team for LIFF hosted event in Park City at Sundance 2019
Oversee team for LIFF hosted event in Santa Monica for AFM 2019
Develop and Manage Environmentally conscious partnerships and programming as a part of the LIFF 2019 Festival
Oversee Fundraising Events in California, New York & Louisiana
Team Supervision - Manage both the Los Angeles-based and Louisiana-based Teams of seasonal and year-round contractors
Representation - Effectively represent LIFF mission and vision with donors, government, foundations, sponsors, and general public
Fundraising/Marketing - In collaboration with board and team, ensure the growth of LIFF through donor and corporate sponsorship development, marketing/public relations, and grants
Develop high-level partnerships with donors, sponsors, government representatives, foundations, non-profits and for profit companies
Increase visibility by serving as the face and voice of the organization
Work with Marketing Manager to develop and maintain an effective marketing and public relations strategy to promote the products, services and image of the organization nationally and regionally
Oversee the implementation of the year-round marketing plan, which includes branding, design, advertising, PR/press, outreach and communications
Program Management - In collaboration with staff (Managing Director, Program Director, Communications Manager, Development Manager), advance organizational, marketing/public relations, and fundraising goals of the Festival and associated projects and events.
Administration/HR - Responsible for HR activities, including team recruitment, team development and evaluations, policies and contracts
Recruiting - Provide strategic growth opportunities and motivation that attract, keep, and motivate a diverse, high-quality team
Budget - Maintain oversight of operations and budget to ensure prudent fiscal management
Board of Directors - Effectively recruit, engage, and manage relationship with Board to maximize participation and contribution Compensation Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience
Other duties as recommended by Board of Directors and Advisory Board
Start Date: Early as July 1, as late as August 1
Commitment Requirements
Minimum of 2 months commitment to serve as Interim Executive Director
Upon successful completion of probation, continuation through LIFF 2019 in Spring 2019
Travel to Louisiana to orchestrate and attend quarterly fundraising events
Minimum of 40 hours per week in low season (June - August)
Minimum of 50 hours per week in high season (September - April)
