Part Time Unpaid Internship
Reporting To: Manager, Marketing and Creative Services
Hours: 20 hours/week (Seasonal)
Salary: Non paid – College Credit offered
This internship program is a hands-on opportunity for students to build their work experience and learn the behind-the-scenes operations of a WNBA team. Interns will participate in a series of events and activities exposing them to all departments as well as the many facets of working for a professional sports team. As an Intern you will support the implementation and execution of the Sparks overall marketing plan and promotional events.
Internship Summary
The Social Media/Digital Content Intern, working under the mentorship of the Manager, Marketing & Creative Services, will get real world professional sports experience assisting in building and executing social and digital content on the team's social media platforms, provide game day social media executions, and assist in maintaining the website. This internship position works closely with the Social Media Specialist.
The ideal candidate is active across the main social media platforms, confident and poised in interactions with athletes and fans, and is willing to supply creatively.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Assist with the day-to-day execution of social media posts
• Maintain the social media calendar with promotional posts, historical content and organization needs
• Assist with copywriting of social media posts for each platform
• Research opportunities to promote the Sparks on social media
• Assist in growing our TikTok platform
• Full understanding of each social media platform and its capabilities while staying on top of trends and advancements
• Work with marketing team to develop engaging social media content from concept to execution
• Help monitor and respond to social media customer service inquiries and keep track of influencers
• Build and present weekly/monthly analytics social media reports including the best content & promos
• Clip highlights and select photos for social media.
• Assist with website maintenance.
• Research strategies of other WNBA/NBA teams and other professional sports and identify ways we can apply strategies to our platforms
• Other duties as necessary
Knowledge, Skills, & Experience:
• Working to achieve Bachelor or Master's degree in Journalism, Graphic Design, Photography, Film, Sports Management or related fields
• Proficient with Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and other social media platforms.
• Familiar with WordPress and HTML/CSS coding.
• Basketball knowledge and passion is helpful but not required
• Ability to maintain a high level of integrity within a professional sports environment and in media work zones.
• Experienced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop
• Ability to collaborate and communicate in a team environment
• Basketball knowledge and passion is preferred but not required
• Quick learner who is able to adapt and excel in various environments
• Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills
• Self-starter, ambitious, positive, reliable and high-energy
• Able to demonstrate flexibility and quickly adapt to changes while maintaining high levels of efficiency and effectiveness under pressure
• Some use of personal vehicle
• Includes nights and weekend hours
