Part Time Unpaid Internship
Reporting To: Public Relations and Communications Director
Hours: 35 - 40 hours/week (Seasonal)
Salary: Non paid – College Credit offered
Job Purpose:This internship program is a hands-on opportunity for students to build their work experience and learn the behind-the-scenes operations of a WNBA team. Interns will participate in a series of events and activities exposing them to all departments as well as the many facets of working for a professional sports team. This position will assist the communications department with all initiatives and opportunities as it relates to media relations, public relations, community outreach, player appearances, social and digital media and engagement and external communications.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Attend ALL Sparks home games and assist with game-day media relations and team operations
• Coordinate and manage credentialing for Sparks games
• Maintain and manage a detailed media list: local, national, entertainment, business and sports
• Manage media clips and generate media value reports
• Assist with the coordination of community events to increase the Sparks exposure in the Los Angeles and surrounding communities
• Assist with community ticket programs, including distribution of tickets on a per game basis
• Assist with planning, implementation and staffing of Sparks media, special and charitable events, including, but not limited to: press conferences, interviews, marketing, mascot and dance team appearances
• Assist with the writing of Sparks newsletters, postgame quotes, notes and other materials
• General office duties and other duties as assigned by supervisor
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
• Working to achieve Bachelors or Masters degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Sports Management or related fields
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills; basketball knowledge and passion is preferred but not required.
• Quick learner who is able to adapt and excel in various environments
• Strong computer skills including proficiency with HTML, InDesign and Photoshop and social media tools
• Self motivated, positive, reliable and high-energy
• Ability to multi-task, work in a fast-paced and high pressure environment; are detail oriented and extremely organized
Reliable transportation; use of personal vehicle to and from practice and ability to work weekends, nights and holidays
