Job Title: Strength & Conditioning Coach
Department: Basketball Ops SBL
Reports to: General Manager, SBL
Manages: N/A
Position Summary: The Strength & Conditioning Coach for the South Bay Lakers ensures that each player on the team has the most appropriate strength and conditioning plan in place to promote optimal performance. This role implements and adjusts player workouts over the season, as needed. In addition, the Strength & Conditioning Coach is responsible for motivating players and holding them accountable for their work in the weight room. Must be able to work well in a team, work irregular hours, and travel overnight for extensive periods of time.
Essential Functions (Duties & Responsibilities):
• Support the design, development, and delivery of a comprehensive strength, speed, agility, and conditioning program; monitor progress and adapt programs as needed
• Communicate and work in partnership within strength & conditioning department, on-court coaches, and other members of the Performance Staff to guide players through injury prevention, return to play programs, and other reconditioning and performance training
• Apply movement and performance-based assessments; execute body composition and anthropometric testing on players
• Explain, teach, and enforce proper execution, techniques and safety for all lifts and movement activities
• Effectively motivate athletes to achieve maximum potential in all areas of performance
• Maintain detailed records of programming, along with timely documentation of player status, progress, and performance as related to strength and conditioning
• Attend training camp, all practices, and all preseason, regular season, and playoff games
• Attend meetings with Performance Staff and other regular department meetings to discuss updates
• Assist in maintaining a clean and safe weight room
• Contribute to the evaluation and implementation of best-practice sports science principles
• Spearhead the utilization and integration of sports performance technology and systems, such as the VALD platform, Kangatech and Kinexon, in collaboration with the medical, wellness, training, nutrition and analytics staff
• Collaborate with medical and training staff to conduct and evaluate NBA prospects
• Attend training camp, all practices, all home and away preseason, regular season and playoff games
• Assist with NBA pre-draft workouts and Summer League
• Adhere to all team and League rules and reporting, including compliance with Anti-Drug Program and standards
• Order all Gatorade Products for SBL
• Maintain adequate inventory of Gatorade/protein shakes
• Ensure players are receiving necessary supplements as prescribed by the team’s sports dietitian
• Oversee ordering post-game meals
**Responsibilities subject to change based on organizational needs and direction from management.
Education/Certifications (Required/Preferred):
• Bachelor’s degree required in Exercise Science, Sports Medicine, Physical Education, Kinesiology or other related field; master’s degree preferred
• Certifications related to the position are required: Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). May include: Certified Athletic Trainer and/or Licensed Physical Therapist
• Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach (RSCC) preferred[LS1]
• Certified Performance & Sport Scientist (CPSS) recommended[LS2]
• Current certification in CPR/AED and First Aid required
Previous Experience:
• At least three years of strength and conditioning experience required
• Experience working in elite level sports, preferred

• Must have uncompromised ability to protect confidentiality/privacy of others and company documents and records
• Reliable and flexible team player, both within own department and the company as a whole
• Possess strong command of reasoned, measured decision-making based on analyzing pros and cons of each potential decision to be made
• Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build and cultivate strong relationships
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including ability to communicate effectively with different audiences
• Highly organized, detail oriented, and motivated
• Demonstrated ability to act with the utmost discretion and professionalism; must have ability to maintain professional appearance
Physical Demands: Ability to lift 100 pounds or more; able to properly demonstrate and perform executed exercises
Location: El Segundo (offices M-F), practice, home and away games, and other occasional off-site events
Travel: Up to 50% of the time (approx. 26 away games)
Hours: Regular office hours, plus overtime (when needed) is mandatory; must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays
The pay range for this role is $68,000 to $72,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience and certifications. In addition to those factors, we consider the relative pay of our current employees in similar positions when making a final offer.
