Job Title: Massage Therapist
Department: Training
Reports to: Head Athletic Trainer
Position Summary: The Massage Therapist works hands-on with players focusing on the identification and treatment of soft tissue related movement restrictions and/or limitations and pain. Will support the players' preventative care, injury treatment and recovery plan by working in collaboration with the training staff to evaluate and address soft tissue related conditions to maximize function, movement and athletic performance. This role also involves the timely referral to the training, physical therapy and/or strength & conditioning staff for additional evaluation. Must be able to work well on a team and travel at least 50% of the time to away games as directed by the team.
Essential Functions (Duties & Responsibilities):
• Provide daily hands-on massage therapy treatment to players at all practices, home and away games and potentially on recovery and off days as determined by athletic training staff
• Address and treat player muscle tightness; stretch out players, as needed
• Report player injuries to athletic training staff for proper evaluation and treatment
• Daily documentation of player treatments for tracking and reporting purposes
• Maintain a clean, organized and safe working environment
• Collaborate and communicate with training, weight room, performance, physical therapy, nutrition staff, team physicians, and analytics staff to ensure optimal player health and performance
• Attend training camp, all practices, all home and away preseason, regular season and playoff games. Attend Summer League and provide off hours recovery care as needed.
• Adhere to all team and League rules and reporting, and Health and Safety Protocols
• Complete other duties and special projects, as assigned
Education:
• Bachelor's degree required
Credentials & Certifications:
• Completion of a recognized Massage Therapy training program with appropriate certification required
• Current license as a Massage Therapist in good standing required
• Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications required
Previous Experience:
• A minimum of five (5) years of work experience in elite or pro sports as a Sports Massage Therapist or equivalent experience
• Experience with NBA teams or collegiate basketball teams preferred
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
• Must have uncompromised ability to protect confidentiality/privacy of others and company documents and records
• Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation as it relates to soft tissue injuries, must be able to prioritize and perform multiple tasks as needed
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including ability to communicate effectively with different audiences
• Must be thorough, timely and detailed with treatment documentation, excellent organization, and planning skills
• Competent in use of computer programs including EMR system, and Microsoft Outlook and Word.
• Demonstrated ability to act with the utmost discretion and professionalism; must have ability to maintain professional appearance
• Reliable and flexible team player, both within own department and the company as a whole
Location: El Segundo (offices M-F), downtown Los Angeles (Crypto.com Arena for Lakers home games), away games, and other occasional off-site events
Travel: Available to travel with team to preseason, regular season, and post season away games, as well as California Classic and Summer League games; occasional other travel required
Hours: Ability to work flexible schedule; available to work evenings, weekends and holidays; overtime may be required
