This is a Full Time Job
The Los Angeles Dodgers Quantitative Analysis team is responsible for researching and developing data-driven metrics and tools that improve decision-making throughout Baseball Operations. We focus on methodology for using data to evaluate all facets of player performance at all levels of baseball. We craft, implement, and maintain the models used to advise decisions about player personnel, player development, and on-field-strategy.
The Junior Quantitative Analyst will join the team to support the maintenance of existing products, the development and communication of new products, and the construction of ad-hoc analyses. As a member of the team, you will work with and learn from experts in statistics, computer science, biomechanics and other subject areas. This position offers growth potential and the opportunity to see the impact of your work on the field.
Job Functions:
• Perform ad hoc data analyses to answer urgent questions from front office leadership and other groups within baseball operations
• Maintain models and products previously developed by the team
• Review new code and models developed by the team
• Prepare presentations and reports to communicate model results to the front office, as well as staff from coaching, scouting and player development
• Learn about industry software tools and sophisticated statistical models as guided by other members of the Quantitative Analysis team
• Additional duties as assigned
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
• B.S. in Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• Experience with R or Python
• Familiarity with public research in baseball analytics
• Ability to communicate optimally in speech and in writing about technical and non-technical concepts
An Ideal Candidate:
• Has passion for data science and may be new to the field
• Is eager to learn and grow as a data scientist, taking on greater responsibility in the future
• Is enthusiastic about baseball and wants to see their work reflected on the field and in the box score
When you apply, please submit a one-page resume and a data science work sample (PDF strongly preferred for both). The work sample might be an old class project, or a hobby project, or a link to something you published online. The work sample need NOT be related to baseball. If you are able to include the code you used for the project (e.g. as a GitHub link), that is a plus.
