Job Summary
The LA Clippers are looking for an Associate General Counsel to provide legal and business affairs support and counsel to the LA Clippers and its affiliates. Your specific responsibilities will include preparing, reviewing and negotiating a wide variety of legal documents, litigation management, intellectual property licensing and protection, digital media and employment matters. Ideal candidate will have at least 5-7 years of transactional law experience, with combined experience between a law firm and an in-house legal department.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
*Provide counsel on content exploitation across all media and platforms, including new formats and technologies.
*Identify legal and regulatory issues in product initiatives, new technologies, and customer agreements, and work with the appropriate resources to create solutions and minimize risk.
*Advise on privacy law compliance, including with respect to data protection, data retention, data security, consumer protection, and data breach rules.
*Stay up-to-date on, and advise on potential business impact, of updates and changes to sports gambling laws.
*Provide counsel for the business operations of the LA Clippers organization – marketing and game entertainment, sponsorship, sales, human resources and finance.
*Prepare, review, draft and/or negotiate a wide variety of legal documents including, but not limited to, broadcast rights agreements, sponsorship agreements, sales agreements, employment agreements, vendor/service agreements, waivers, consents and finance documents.
*Advise senior management regarding corporate governance issues and insurance matters.
*Review sales and marketing promotional materials to ensure compliance with appropriate laws and internal policies and procedures.
*Manage disputes and resolution proceedings between the organization and third parties with the assistance of outside counsel.
*Assist in the development of corporate policies, template documents and compliance programming.
*Administer and maintain contract management system and conduct central repository audits.
*Keep current on industry-wide legal trends and developments to proactively counsel business partners and manage legal exposure.
Characteristics
/ Qualifications
*J.D. degree from an accredited law school required.
*Member of California State Bar in good standing.
*Minimum of 5-7 years of transactional legal experience as a practicing attorney at a law firm and an in-house legal department.
*Concrete understanding of corporate, intellectual property, privacy, sports and entertainment and contract law.
*Strong interpersonal skills including ability to communicate effectively with a variety of contacts, including outside attorneys, senior management and business partners.
*Proficient Excel and Lexis-Nexis/Westlaw research tools.
*Self-starter and entrepreneurial spirit with hands-on approach towards business.
*Willingness to work a flexible and dynamic work schedule that accommodates the needs and demands of the stakeholders.
*Sound judgment and decision-making skills.
