THE TEAM
Join our database team and become an integral core member of a group supporting the world's largest ticketing system. We are on a journey to build a set of next generation database tools to build, manage and operate various databases with an ''infrastructure as code'' mindset. We use various database RDBMS and NoSQL technologies. We support multiple database platforms - running on both private and public cloud infrastructure - powering the world's largest ticketing system and serving 170M customers. THE JOB
We are looking for a proactive and capable, technical focused individual to join our team of Oracle Database Engineering's. You will work under the guidance of our Oracle DBA's. You will get hands on experience working on a mature, enterprise class product. We operate a Dev-Ops, Infrastructure as Code, Agile, Follow the Sun model. This is a hands-on role, with the opportunities to take part on database administration, patching, maintenance, procedure development, migrations, troubleshooting, performance tuning, automation development, within a high-impact and collaborative environment.
The ideal candidate will have a growth mindset, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for solving complex problems. You will be a key technical contributor working on honing a highly desirable technical skill set.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
• Follow pre-prepared runbooks to perform
• Oracle installation, configuration, backup/recovery, patching, and performance tuning.
• Support our existing Oracle database stack.
• Test runbook validity
• Assist with performance tuning, monitoring, and troubleshooting Oracle databases.
• Maintain and update technical documentation related to database configurations and migrations.
• Assist in identifying opportunities for automation and streamlining of manual processes.
• Learn and follow best practices around security, backup, and recovery.
• Support the implementation and maintenance of monitoring tools and proactive alerting mechanisms.
• Prometheus/Grafana
• Gitlab and CICD deployment tools.
• Runbook/Procedure testing.
• Stay updated on latest applicable technologies and advancements.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (or TECHNICAL SKILLS)
• Working experience 0 - 2 years.
• Bachelor degree with Computer Science or Computer Engineering major with GAP 3.5+.
• Knowledge of RDBMS.
• Ability to write and read SQL queries.
• Understand database design principles.
• Knowledge of Oracle Databases – Not required but a plus
• Exposure to other RDBMSs such as MySQL. – Not required but a plus
• Working knowledge of schema design, stored procedures, and query optimisation – Not required but a plus
• Basic knowledge of Linux.
• Basic knowledge of IT infrastructure: AD, DNS, VIP's, Hypervisors, networking and storage principles.
• Knowledge of a programming language.
• Ability to document processes clearly and concisely.
• Familiarity with Agile and DevOps practices. – Not required but a plus
