Job Scope:
The Data I/O Tier 2 operator restores LTO media, manages data from multiple sources, notifies producers and clients of data movement, assists in writing final DI archives, as well as a small bit of server and storage management. Applicants should already have at least a cursory understanding of the skills listed below.
The ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual with excellent attention to detail, troubleshooting abilities, technical aptitude, and people skills. A successful candidate must be able to handle tasks concurrently and quickly switch priorities as needed. This is an intermediate level post production position with opportunities for growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Restore selected material from existing LTO archives for VFX pulls and conform turnovers
Communicate with in-house and on-set technicians to address issues and resolve them
Archive final picture master deliverables to a variety of client specifications/formats, including cloud and LTO tape
Manage online media storage across SANs and NASs
Report/track bugs and crashes of software/hardware
Test new software and hardware
Data IO (sending, receiving, and moving data)
Assists with vault operations on an as-needed basis: Handling physical assets, logging physical assets, reception
All other duties as assigned
Skills/Experience Required:
Understanding of digital cinema cameras and their production and post-production workflows
Understanding of checksum hashes
Understanding of general computer networking
Comfort learning new and proprietary software
Experience in Mac environments, including *nix command-line interaction
Experience with YoYottaID preferred
Experience with LTO and LTFS preferred
Experience with simple bash scripting preferred
Understanding of data transfer hardware (hard drives, data cables, LTOs, HDCAMs, etc.)
Experience with file sharing software (Media Shuttle, Aspera, PIX, Frame IO, Dropbox, etc.)
Experience with productivity and project management software (Google Apps, Slack, Trello, Farmer's Wife, etc.)
Extremely organized and detail oriented
Excellent technical troubleshooting skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Customer service oriented
Comfortable working alone for extended periods
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
This job operates in a professional office environment. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands and reach with hands and arms. The employee may also be required to lift product or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This position works a daytime shift of 9am to 6pm in the eastern time zone, and may require long hours and occasional weekend work.
Travel:
Travel for this position is not expected, but in rare cases some out-of-state and overnight travel is possible.
