Summary
The Manager, Business & Legal Affairs, will be responsible for liaising with film, television, and licensing departments and outside counsel to manage trademark and copyright registrations and for working with vendors to support Legendary’s IP enforcement activities. Responsibilities will also include negotiating and drafting a variety of agreements and providing strategic legal and business advice to support the day-to-day operations of Legendary’s marketing, licensing, and corporate teams. Such agreements include consumer products, digital, interactive, and other IP license agreements, marketing, and promotion agreements, and vendor agreements. The ideal candidate will be a proactive individual with strong communication skills and a knack for handling numerous projects in a highly efficient, cooperative manner.
Responsibilities
• Liaise with film, television, and licensing departments and outside counsel to manage trademark and copyright registrations (e.g., file trademark registrations, file extensions, and renewals, assemble supporting documentation to demonstrate use in commerce, etc.)
• Collaborate with the content security team and outside vendors to support Legendary’s intellectual property enforcement activities
• Prepare and send DMCA takedown notices and send cease and desist letters
• Negotiate and draft a variety of agreements, including consumer products and other IP license deal memos and long-form agreements, sales agent agreements, vendor agreements, contest and sweepstakes rules, marketing and promotion agreements
• Review and address clearance matters for consumer products
• Liaise with marketing executives regarding legal aspects of campaigns, contests, and privacy policies
• Collaborate with, provide advice to, and synthesize feedback from production, creative, business development, and finance executives
• Review and revise form agreements and standard terms and conditions
• Maintain awareness and understanding of the latest developments in entertainment and intellectual property law
• Other projects as needed
- Qualifications
• Excellent academic credentials from a top-tier law school
• At least 2 years experience as an attorney in the entertainment practice of a law firm. One or more additional years working in the business & legal affairs department of an entertainment company preferred
• Member of the California bar in good standing
• Well-organized, with strict attention to detail
• Outstanding analytic, negotiation, and legal drafting skills
• Excellent communication skills: written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal
• A professional individual who can build strong relationships, internally and externally
• Highly responsible, self-motivated, and able to thrive in an energetic, fast-paced, high growth, entrepreneurial environment
