Overview
We are seeking a passionate, highly motivated Writing & Creative Development Intern to assist in the development of a feature film screenplay currently in progress with an attached producer. This internship is ideal for an emerging writer or filmmaker who is eager to gain hands-on experience in script development and creative collaboration within an independent film environment.
This role offers a rare opportunity to work closely with a writer throughout the active development phase of a feature film, gaining firsthand insight into how scripts evolve from early drafts through revisions, notes, and producer feedback. The intern will be deeply involved in the creative process and exposed to the realities of professional screenwriting, story development, and industry workflows.
This internship is best suited for someone who is both creatively driven and detail-oriented-someone who loves story, understands structure, and is excited to help shape a script at a granular level.
Key Responsibilities
The Writing & Creative Development Intern will assist across multiple stages of the script development process, including but not limited to:
Script Development & Writing Support
Assist with revisions, rewrites, and polish passes on the screenplay
Help generate new dialogue, scenes, and story ideas under direction
Track story changes across drafts and help maintain version organization
Format and proofread screenplay drafts to ensure professional presentation
Creative Development & Story Analysis
Provide script coverage, written notes, and constructive feedback on drafts
Analyze character arcs, pacing, tone, theme, and overall narrative cohesion
Identify story strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement
Participate in creative brainstorming sessions to develop story solutions
Research & World-Building
Conduct targeted research to support story authenticity, character backgrounds, and thematic depth
Compile reference materials, inspiration decks, and creative notes
Assist with development materials related to tone, genre, and audience
Production & Collaboration Exposure
Observe and assist with the writer's collaboration with the producer
Help prepare materials for development discussions and meetings
Gain insight into how creative notes are translated into actionable revisions
Administrative & Organizational Support
Organize script drafts, notes, outlines, and development documents
Track feedback and revisions across multiple iterations
Support general creative development workflow as needed
Who We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is someone who is serious about pursuing a career in screenwriting, film development, or creative production, and who is eager to learn by doing. Leaning toward Screenwriting and Film majors.
Required Skills & Qualities
Strong passion for film, storytelling, and screenwriting
Excellent written communication and analytical skills
Solid understanding of screenplay format and story structure
Ability to provide clear, thoughtful, and constructive creative feedback
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently while meeting deadlines
Professional, reliable, and receptive to notes and collaboration
Preferred Experience
Familiarity with screenwriting software such as Final Draft
Prior experience writing scripts, short films, or creative prose
Coursework or background in film, creative writing, media studies, or related fields
Previous experience with script coverage or story analysis (not required)
