PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Director of Health and Performance oversees the Aces team of medical and performance professionals in providing preventative maintenance and rehabilitative care to players. They are responsible for the overall leadership and direction of the physical, mental, and behavioral well-being of the athletes within the Las Vegas Aces organization. This position is responsible for managing existing relationships, as well as establishing new relationships, with players, doctors, other health care and performance professionals, coaches, and executives. The Director of Health and Performance is responsible for the successful implementation of player injury, assessment, and rehabilitation programming. This will include high-performance strategies, research and development, and management outcomes in the areas of sports performance (i.e., strength and conditioning, sport science, and performance analytics), sports medicine, sports nutrition, and mental performance. Using a collaborative and comprehensive approach, the Director of Health and Performance ensures that every athlete receives the highest standard of care across every aspect of their treatment and training. This position provides substantial leadership and administrative direction for a world class delivery of athletic health and performance, including the potential for novel and innovative solutions that support athlete's wellness, injury prevention, recovery, testing and monitoring, and physical preparation. As a member of the leadership team, the ability to effectively manage and enhance collaboration efforts within a highly skilled cross functional staff is essential.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
• Direct and implement pre-season and post-season player physicals per WNBA standards.
• Direct and provide physical therapy and athletic training to Las Vegas Aces players in-season and during off-season.
• Direct and coordinate medical appointments for players as indicated in-season and during off-season.
• Provide daily medical update communication with Las Vegas Aces coaching staff and management team in-season and during off-season.
• Oversee practice, training, and arena facilities' medical and training equipment inventory.
• Oversee practice, training and arena facilities medical and training ordering and provide recommendations.
• Develop and manage sports medical program budget.
• Supervise record keeping and documentation including, but not limited to WNBA electronic medical records (EMR program).
• Direct the management of player workman's compensation claims, complete and follow-up per guidelines.
• Oversee player health and performance assessment recommendations for draft and trades with Las Vegas Aces management and coaching staff.
• Oversee medical intern program in-season in coordination with Head Athletic Trainer and Performance Coach.
• Schedule and coordinate medical intern staff for coverage of all team practices and athletic competitions, including visiting team practices and shoot arounds.
• Travel with team to all away games.
• Professional development in off season to support Las Vegas Aces medical team.
• Must live in market (Las Vegas) year-round and work full time.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• High school diploma or GED
• Licensed Physical Therapist
• At least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
• Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and inventory control.
• Knowledge of athletic, mechanical, and electronic equipment, and supplies
• Knowledge of purchasing procedures involving procurement and travel logistics.
• Organizing and coordinating skills.
• Ability to lead, train, and functionally supervise staff and/or student employees.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
