Full Time Job
KTXL is looking for a video journalist who can identify and capture stories in a fast-paced news environment. You will be asked to gather stories both as a team with reporters and on your own. We strive for NPPA style storytelling and hold our entire staff at a high standard. You will be asked to identify stories, chase breaking news, troubleshoot on the fly, work well as a team, and push the boundaries of innovation.
Responsibilities
• Shoot and edit news stories both teamed up with a reporter and by yourself
• Have a broad knowledge of ENG gathering equipment and the ability to troubleshoot
• Have an advanced understanding of video production, including lighting, audio, framing, story structure, editing, etc.
• Have a strong understanding of journalistic integrity
• General maintenance of camera gear, vehicles, computer, edit systems, etc.
• Additional duties as necessary
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Working knowledge of editorial standards
• Must demonstrate solid news judgment
• Non-linear editing skills (Adobe Creative Suite experience preferred)
• Experience with HP/Windows OS desired
• Must be able to work well under deadline pressure
• Ability and willingness to write stories as needed
• Be able to tell complete and comprehensive stories utilizing video and sound
• Must be creative with strong editing skills
• Must have attention to detail with great accuracy
• Must have a valid California driver's license
• Valid Passport preferred
• News is 24/7. We need photographers who can work any shift
• Willingness to travel with little to no notice and work overtime
Working Relationships:
• Must be a team player and work well with others
• Reports directly to Chief Photographer and takes direction on assignments from news managers and assignment editors
• Represent the station to the community in a professional manner
• Contribute story ideas at daily editorial meeting
• Relay information from the field back to station promptly and clearly
Training Requirements:
• General ENG operation, maintenance, and safety
• Satellite Truck/ENG Truck safety training
• LIVE U/TVU/Bonded Cellular Live Transmission
Qualifications
• A.A. Degree in Communications/Media/Production
• Minimum 2 years of experience as television news photographer
• Experience operating live microwave truck
• Experience operating Satellite truck desired
• Experience operating drone/UAS part 107 desired
• Ability to stand for long periods of time and carry upwards of 75lbs of gear
