Full Time Job
The KTLA+ producer is responsible for writing, directing and producing a daily digital news show airing on KTLA.com, the KTLA 5 News mobile app and the KTLA+ Smart TV app Monday through Friday.
The KTLA+ Producer will help build the show every day, producing segments, editing, writing, transcoding video, reporting, and switching the show in real time. Candidates should have experience directing a live news show, executing a rundown in real time, adjusting shots and feeds, and responding on the fly to breaking news.
Duties include operating a switcher, writing scripts, building graphics, stacking a rundown, playing out clips, editing video, monitoring and adjusting an audio board, establishing camera shots and directing hosts. Experience working on a small team is preferred.
KTLA+ Producer will also be responsible for clipping video for KTLA's digital platforms, along with updating our digital master control system to roll out playlists, ingest video, set cues and prepare digital assets.
Candidates should have strong news judgement, an understanding of Southern California and the ability to handle the demanding deadlines of a newsroom. Candidates should be detail-oriented, organized and able to prioritize and comfortably multitask under tight deadlines. Must be able to follow directions, perform duties, share the spotlight, thrive in a team environment and make independent decisions. The applicant must understand news values and story structure.
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree, preferably in journalism or communication, and at least two years of relevant work experience in journalism are a must. Previous experience in a newsroom, especially on a digital platform or in local television news, is preferred. The candidate must have excellent command of the English language, both verbal and written. The individual must be able to work various shifts and times, including early mornings, nights and weekends. The ideal candidate will have a passion for journalism excellence and the will to compete and win.
