Title: Clearance Specialist
Reports to: Line Producer
Location: Remote or In Person Position (Kin is based in Los Angeles)
Kin is looking for an experienced and conscientious Clearance Specialist who can jump in to support our team and take charge for managing the clearances of all Kin's productions and content.
Who You'll Work With:
The Clearance Specialist will report to Kin's Line Producer and will work closely with Kin's production team and legal team to ensure that all elements of Kin productions have been properly vetted for clearance, all necessary contracts for legal clearance have been appropriately negotiated and obtained, and relationships with ongoing licensors are established, maintained, and kept.
What You'll Do:
- Advise the production team on clearance procedures and assist at the pre-production phase to review creative documents and identify all clearances needed for each production
- Conduct all Internet and phone research necessary to identify rights holders and property owners and perform outreach to negotiate and coordinate the rentals of property, usage of intellectual property, and appearances in productions (includes negotiating the most affordable deals possible in order to license stock footage and other third-party materials as needed)
- Obtain full signature of the proper release forms and contracts to ensure suitable clearance of all productions
- Liaise between Kin's production team and legal team for clearance questions as they arise throughout the production process
- Coordinate with the legal team to respond to redlines requested by licensors and rights owners of materials, properties, and appearances, and follow up with all parties as needed until documents are fully executed
- Build and maintain clearance grids to track rights management and releases for all productions, and create and maintain a contacts directory of all licensors and rights owners
- Organize and maintain all Kin release folders, ensuring file names are correct and correspond to the project as they come in from the field
- Review production content during post-production to ensure all necessary clearances were identified and obtained and to confirm compliance with all negotiated clearance agreement terms, provide notes accordingly, and consult with the legal team as necessary
- Regularly report clearance costs to Line Producer, work closely with Line Producer to proactively suggest cost-saving options, and facilitate and track required payments for licensing and/or other fees associated with clearances
- Perform historical clearance auditing and tracking for Kin's existing library, and assist in obtaining any missing clearances in connection therewith

What You Have:
- 4+ years of experience in clearance at a film, television, or digital production company, studio, or network with extensive knowledge of rights management, licensing third party materials, and working with production legal teams
- A basic knowledge of production law as it relates to rights and clearances including intellectual property (copyright and trademarks), personal torts (defamation and rights of publicity), and general rights management
- Flexibility and the ability to work hours subject to production needs
- Knowledge of industry practices in production
- Strong proficiency with Google Documents, Google Sheets, Word, and Dropbox
- College degree
