KHOU-TV is now accepting applications for paid summer internships for the following departments: News, Weather, and WEB
If you're a junior or senior in college, and would like a paid intern with Houston's best News team, this is your chance! KHOU is committed to hiring interns from colleges and accredited universities and potentially integrate them into our workforce in the future. Internships offer everyone an opportunity to see if they are interested in pursuing a career in broadcast journalism, in multiple capacities. All of our interns receive the benefit of being assigned a mentor. Our mentors will provide a learning partnership with our interns, and teach them all there is to know about the fascinating world of television. The mentor will provide a platform to develop passion, skills and experience.
Depending on the department of interest, interns may assist with:
News:
Understanding and writing topical, broadcast-style scripts; learning to build a newscast from start to finish; using appropriate video and graphics; and working various departments within the newsroom.
Weather:
Maintaining a local climatological and hurricane database; entering data for the preparation of on-air graphics; monitoring content on khou's website and data from weather and traffic cameras; must possess a general knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word as well as a fundamental knowledge of using Internet search engines; must have a general interest and enthusiasm for weather.
Web:
Updating the web with fresh content; posting video to the web; creating photo slideshows; taking photos at community events for slideshows; and learning how to publish to the web platform

A. A two-page essay on why you would like to be selected for a SPECIFY DEPARTMENT internship
B. Three academic and/or professional references
C. Proof of class credit (You must be able to receive class credit for participating in this program.)
