Job Overview
The Social Media Intern supports PBS SoCal’s social media efforts by managing and curating content on various social media platforms, engaging with the audience, analyzing performance metrics, and assisting with the development of social media strategies to enhance the online presence and reach of the organization. This position is part of the organization’s audience engagement and marketing team. The position is hybrid, primarily remote with occasional mandatory and voluntary in-person meetings, events, and filming days in Burbank, CA, Costa Mesa, CA and other locations to be determined.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
• Brainstorms ideas develops scripts and helps edit social media videos
• Stays on top of social media trends, changes in the landscape and best practices to support new strategies and help maximize social media exposure
• Helps locate and prepare social media assets, which may include: downloading files from asset sites, finding or requesting content for cross-post, captioning video, creating tracked URLs for social sharing and optimizing or creating imagery
• Helps organize and craft language for social media posts
• Monitors audience interaction and helps coordinate community management, flagging messages and comments for response in a timely manner
• Assists with gathering analytics and contributing to reports
• Helps with “live” social media coverage at events as needed
• Collaborates on and helps manage small social media campaigns
• Light photo editing as needed
• Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• At least 18 years of age
• Available for a minimum of 20, but no more than 30 hours per week
• Reliable transportation access for travel to in-person meetings and events
• DMV pull notice may be required upon hire
• Understanding of social media platforms
• Collaborative, collegial and resourceful, and willing to pitch in on a variety of projects
• Must have an appreciation for fun and humor as well as editorial maturity in order to observe traditional guidelines of accuracy, responsible presentation, quality, and trust that are inherent to the brand
• A curious observer of news, trends and pop culture (particularly internet and television)
• Familiarity with or interest in television production with a focus on interactive storytelling
• Passionate about proactively learning and researching new media and emerging technologies
• Knowledge of (or interest in learning) Adobe Creative Suite- particularly Photoshop and Premiere
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, it is regularly required to sit; use hand to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is also required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment
The working conditions are primarily a general home or office setting. However, the position will require occasional meetings in our Burbank, CA and Costa Mesa, CA offices and off-site travel to other locations as necessary.
