Job Overview
The program facilitator will be responsible for conducting PBS SoCal’s Parent Academies, Family and Community Learning Workshops, and Camps at local early learning agencies, pre-k and elementary schools in Los Angeles and Orange County. The Parent Academy program is a five-week series of once a week parent trainings, which address parent engagement in the digital age using PBS KIDS STEM resources. The Family and Community Learning Workshops is a four-week series of once a week family workshops, which address topics like coding, science inquiry, and the engineering design process. The camps are a series of five consecutive days that address topics like math, science, and space, and earth science. The program facilitators will deliver these trainings using PBS SoCal’s Parent Academy, camps, and Family and Community Learning Workshops curriculum and materials already developed by PBS SoCal and PBS KIDS.
The primary responsibilities of the program facilitator are:
• Understand the philosophy, approach, and curriculum of PBS SoCal’s Parent Academies, Family and Community Learning Workshops, and camps.
• Be comfortable teaching and integrating digital media/technology into the workshops
• Attend orientation training and in-person or virtual facilitator meetings.
• Conduct either Parent Academies, Family and Community Learning Workshops, and/or camps.
• Arrive punctually to workshop sites; perform setup and registration duties as needed.
• Ensure that PBS SoCal’s programs are delivered professionally and effectively.
• Establish a safe and engaging environment during the workshop for parents.
• Provide guidance to the parents based on PBS SoCal’s program services and resources.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Experience leading or teaching groups; experience facilitating parent engagement
• Demonstrate strong time and classroom management skills
• Excellent communication skills
• General knowledge of the school system
• Strong desire to work with parents to improve the academic success of all students
• Comfortable and knowledgeable on current educational technology practices
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred
• Valid CA Driver’s License; dependable transportation to workshop locations
• Must be available morning, evenings and/or weekends
• Pass a fingerprint and background check
