Job Overview
The Parent Facilitator will be responsible for delivering PBS SoCal’s Family Math workshops, camps, and related programming at early learning centers, elementary school sites, and non-profit organizations throughout Los Angeles and Orange Counties. These workshops are designed to foster adult and child engagement, particularly in the digital age, through the use of PBS SoCal’s Family Math resources.
Workshops focus on foundational math concepts aligned with Preschool, Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework, and Common Core State Standards. The Parent Facilitator will implement PBS SoCal’s evidence-based curriculum and utilize instructional materials developed by PBS SoCal and PBS KIDS to engage families in hands-on, developmentally appropriate math learning experiences.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
• Understand the philosophy, approach, and curriculum of PBS SoCal’s Family Math initiative, workshop model, Eat Play workshops, and Camps
• Be comfortable teaching and integrating digital media/technology into the workshops
• Attend orientation training and bi-monthly in-person and/or virtual facilitator bi-monthly meetings
• Conduct PBS SoCal’s Family Math workshop, Eat Play workshops, and Camps
• Arrive punctually at workshop sites; perform setup and registration duties as needed
• Ensure that PBS SoCal’s programs are delivered professionally and effectively
• Establish a safe and engaging environment during the workshops for parents, caregivers and children
• Provide guidance to parents and caregivers based on PBS SoCal’s program services and resources
• Administrative responsibilities include supporting with workshop logistics, managing travel time and timecard, mileage and expense reimbursements, and supporting with post-workshop survey
Qualifications:
• Experience leading or teaching groups with child and adult interactions; experience facilitating parent engagement
• Demonstrate strong time and classroom management skills
• Excellent communication skills
• General knowledge of the school system
• Strong desire to work with parents and caregivers to improve the academic success of all students
• Comfortable and knowledgeable about current educational technology practices
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred, but not required
• Access to reliable transportation for travel to in-person meetings and events
• Must be available mornings, evenings, and/or weekends, for a minimum of 8 hours per month
• Live scan /fingerprinting check clearance is required for employment
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, it is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is also required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment
The working conditions are primarily in a classroom setting. However, the position will require occasional meetings in our Burbank, CA office, Costa Mesa, CA office, a local venue, and/or off-site workshops at partner locations.
