Job Overview
The Education Department at PBS SoCal seeks an intern to join our Early Learning Team. This role will focus on developing new resources related to our programming and initiatives for families and children ages 2-8, with a specific focus on facilitating curriculum projects and initiatives, including but not limited to researching and reviewing learning standards and trajectories in social emotional learning and supporting development of digital and non-digital learning experiences. This position offers the flexibility of remote work, with occasional travel required to our Burbank and/or Costa Mesa offices and community partner sites across Los Angeles and Orange County.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
• Acquire in-depth knowledge of PBS SoCal’s educational programming and initiatives for families and children
• Conduct reviews of internal curricula and educational frameworks
• Actively engage families and children through program activities and digital media
• Provide support to the Early Learning team during workshops and community outreach events
• Prepare and distribute workshop materials to community partners and families
• Participate in team meetings as scheduling permits
• Foster a safe and interactive environment during educational workshops and events
• Undertake additional duties and special projects - as needed
Qualifications:
• Experience working with children and/or families
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Proactive, self-motivated, and capable of taking the initiative on new projects
• Enthusiastic and open to embracing new projects and ideas
• Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is preferred
• Familiarity with early childhood development is advantageous but not required
Requirements:
• At least 18 years of age
• Available for a minimum of 20, but no more than 40 hours per week
• Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed
• Valid CA Driver’s License and reliable transportation for travel to in-person meetings and events
• Successful completion of DMV Pull Notice and Live Scan
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, it is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is also required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment
The working conditions are primarily in a telecommuting setting. However, the position may require off-site travel as necessary. Depending on the position, job duties, and subject to the discretion of the company, the position may be telecommuting eligible in whole or part.
