Job Overview
Under the supervision of the Early Learning Manager and working in collaboration with the education team, the Early Learning Coordinator will support the planning, preparation, and execution of the organization’s early learning programs in the community. This position will work with PBS SoCal’s community partners to support families, with children ages 2-8, engage in STEM and math learning through hands-on curricula, in-person and virtual workshops, educational activities, and digital media. A successful applicant will show a true passion for leveraging high-quality media, educational content, and family engagement strategies to advance children’s learning goals. This position will act as a liaison between the station, Los Angeles and Orange County community partners, and PBS SoCal educational initiatives.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
80% Project Implementation
• Plan, organize, facilitate, and deliver PBS SoCal’s Introductory Workshops, Parent Academies, Family and Community Learning Workshops, Kids Camps, and other family outreach activities that promote the utilization of educational media to improve family engagement around STEM and early math.
• Assist with cultivation and maintenance of a portfolio of community partnerships in Los Angeles and Orange counties, including but not limited to, early learning agencies, school districts, libraries, afterschool programs, head starts, and other early childhood organizations.
• Facilitate learning through a variety of media-rich, interactive learning experiences for parents, caregivers, educators, and children ages 2-8.
• Work collaboratively with community partners to promote program/event participation, distribute PBS KIDS and PBS SoCal resources, and other shared responsibilities.
• Assist with the recruitment, training, and guidance of a talented team of parent facilitators.
• Implement evaluation tools to assess program effectiveness, capture parent and partner feedback, and disseminate and collect appropriate evaluation data (attendance, surveys, etc.) necessary for evaluation activities.
• Set up equipment and materials for parent outreach and special events, and manage inventory of program materials and equipment.
• Collaborate on grant proposal preparation, execution and reporting, including monthly department expense reports, in a timely manner.
• Keep abreast of current developments in early education pedagogy, STEM/Family Math, media literacy, and technology instruction for meeting the needs of children, families, and caregivers.
20% Communications and General Support
• Assist with communication of PBS SoCal’s education events, activities, and materials to key stakeholders (educators, community partners, families, etc.), promoting PBS SoCal’s role as an educational resource.
• Identify new promotional opportunities and outreach activities; attend related community events.
• Maintain positive community partner relationships through consistent, thoughtful, and professional communications, including print and electronic materials.
• Establish a safe and engaging environment during workshops and events for parents.
• Ensure that PBS SoCal’s programs are delivered professionally and effectively.
• Respond to inquiries, conduct daily business, and represent the station with a highly professional and personable demeanor at all times.
• Assist with PBS SoCal programmatic and educational initiatives as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bilingual in English and Spanish required
• Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field or equivalent experience (preferred)
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in education and/or education technology work (preferred)
• A minimum of 1 year of proven experience managing education-related projects
• A combination of work experience and education will be considered
• Ability to work with diverse constituencies, partner organizations, and stakeholders, both locally and nationally
• Must have a general knowledge of and a strong interest in young children and/or early childhood education; Creative approach to STEAM aligned ideals
• Must be resourceful, self-directed, and a flexible team player with excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to accomplish multiple tasks, prioritize work, and be comfortable with a fast-paced, changing environment
• Highly skilled in effective oral and written communication
• Experience in training parents, presenting to a group, and effective public speaking
• Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, Google Docs, Apple technology (iPads, etc.), and Zoom
• Ability to interface effectively and positively with staff at all levels of the organization
• Must be able to work evenings and weekends, on occasion
• Ability to lift 25 pounds
• Valid CA Driver’s License and dependable vehicle to travel to outreach events
