Job Overview
This full-time, exempt position reports to the Senior Director of Early Learning and is responsible for the development and management of PBS SoCal | KCET’s early learning curricula. The Early Learning Curriculum Manager ensures alignment and accessibility of new and existing programs to statewide and national early learning standards and frameworks. This individual collaborates with local, statewide, and national partners to create resources that meet various stakeholder needs in alignment with program goals and objectives. This position is also responsible for managing educator and provider engagement efforts, including developing programming and resources for formal, informal, and pre-service early childhood educators and providers.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities
• Innovate in developing new early learning resources to meet partner and stakeholder needs in alignment with PBS SoCal | KCET program goals and objectives with an emphasis on intergenerational, playful learning
• Audit existing early learning resources for developmental appropriateness and alignment to early learning frameworks and standards
• Develop and apply consistent messaging and language across early learning resources
• Set, develop and monitor goals for curriculum and resource development and implementation
• Assess effectiveness of curricular resources in collaboration with Education Research and Evaluation team and through observations of curriculum implementation; implement feedback loops with stakeholders and team members
• Communicate with and train workshop facilitators on modifications to existing curriculum and the addition of new curricular resources
• Expand program offerings to include new subject and content areas
• Work cross-functionally to support the development of editorial, video, or interactive content
• Pursue and execute relevant curriculum certifications
• Regularly collaborate with Director of Early Learning Partnerships and Senior Manager of Early Learning to understand challenges to adoption and usage of our tools, emerging trends, and how we can improve the effectiveness of early learning resources
• Maintain current knowledge on best practices, evidence-based models, and trends in early childhood education
• Develop and launch programs to deepen educator/provider engagement with PBS SoCal | KCET early learning resources, including with formal, informal, and pre-service early childhood educators and providers
• Collaborate with Education Research and Evaluation team to conduct educator focus groups and surveys to better understand the needs of early childhood educators and providers
• Adapt existing programs for use by educators and providers
• Manage pre-service educator family engagement program in partnerships with college(s)
• Increase ease and availability of resources for educators and providers; develop and enact resource distribution plan
• Manage communication and collaboration opportunities with educator and provider communities
• Develop and conduct trainings, workshops, and professional development sessions for educators and providers, including a train-the-trainer model when appropriate
• Pursue for-credit professional development certifications for educator and provider programming
• Present the mission, goals, and best practices of the PBS SoCal | KCET early learning efforts at key conferences and events
• Manage independent contractors and grant deliverables as needed
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelors’ degree; education or related field
• 5 years' experience as an early childhood educator, preferably working with underserved communities and families
• 2 years’ experience in curriculum development
• Strong understanding of early childhood development, milestones, and learning progressions
• Demonstrated understanding of early learning core content subject areas, socio-emotional learning, and media literacy
• Experience training educators, providers, and/or organizations
• Demonstrated success in creating resources to meet individual partner, stakeholder, and community needs, communicating regularly with existing partners, and identifying additional opportunities for collaboration
• Bilingual; Spanish
• Exceptional interpersonal skills with an ability to connect with people at all levels and backgrounds and build trustworthy relationships.
• Ability to quickly understand and apply new concepts, models, and technologies
• Proactive, dynamic, and results driven individual
• Creative; entrepreneurial; ability to explore, adapt, and bring new ideas to work
• Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, taking them from inception through completion
• Ability to track results, analyze information and communicate findings effectively using spreadsheets, presentation tools, etc.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills, follow-through capabilities and personal accountability for performance
• Excellent oral and written communication as well as presentation skills in diverse environments
• Ability to work effectively with colleagues and other organizations
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, it is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is also required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment
The working conditions are primarily a telecommuting setting. However, the position will require off-site travel to donors and/or other such locations as necessary. Depending on the position, job duties, and subject to the discretion of the company, the position may be telecommuting eligible in whole or part.
