Full Time Job
Under the direction of the Controller, the Accounting Manager bears overall responsibility for the guidance and supervision of KCETLink's payroll accounting function, and assists the Controller in the management of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and month-end close functions. The successful candidate will also participate in the streamlining and documentation of accounting policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
Payroll
• Oversees the payroll accounting function, including auditing payroll processed by the Associate Director, Finance & Payroll; posts payroll activity to the general ledger; and, reconciles the payroll bank account, payroll tax and other related liability accounts
• In collaboration with the Associate Director, Payroll & Finance and the IT Director, participates in the streamlining and documentation of payroll processes and procedures
• Ensures compliance with state and federal requirements and other related directives for assigned payroll accounting functions; audits payroll accounting data to assure accuracy; coordinates activities related to payroll for the annual audit to assure consistency with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); and, reconciles general ledger accounts to assure accuracy.
• Resolves payroll and payroll tax related issues with respect to IRS, FTB, the EDD, etc.; and, serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on KCETLink's payroll related issues
• Prepares and files the monthly guild contribution reports, annual business property statements (571-L) and other related reports
General Ledger and Month-End Reporting
• Reviews and approves the daily and monthly journal entries as recorded by the Accounts Payable and the Accounts Receivable Coordinators
• Assists the Controller in the monthly close by coordinating the monthly close process checklist and meeting reporting deadlines
• Assists the Controller in preparing the monthly financial statements, supporting account analysis, and the budget to actual variance analysis
• Performs various general accounting functions such as journal entries, accounts reconciliations, special reports, and pension fund contributions
Annual Audit
• Reviews and approves the year-end schedules and closing entries prepared by the accounting team
• Prepares year-end schedules as assigned by the Controller or requested by the external auditors
• Assists the Controller with the completion of the Audited Financial Statements and supporting notes
• Coordinates the audit preparation and fieldwork for KCETLink's retirement plan including the preparation of audit support schedules
Other
• Prepares state sales tax returns in coordination with the Accounts Payable Coordinator
• Collaborating with the Controller develops improvement of internal controls in the accounting and payroll functions
• Provides leadership, coaching, and performance feedback to assigned staff
• Assists the Controller with any other special projects as needed
• Completes other duties as assigned
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting or finance
• three to five years' of nonprofit grants management experience
• Strong understanding of Non-Profit Accounting and/or Public Broadcasting practices
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills for monitoring accounting records and resolving accounting problems
• Strong computer skills with excellent spreadsheet abilities for financial modeling including computerized GL maintenance experience (Navision)
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and under time constraints
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
