About the Role
Reporting directly to the Content Marketing Director, the Licensing Director is responsible for developing and executing the licensing strategy for Kanopy to deliver on the company's Content goals. The role is responsible for the development and execution of global film licensing and the ongoing CRM plan for existing rights-owners. The position will work closely with the Marketing Team in our San Francisco office to ensure Kanopy continues to innovate ways to find audiences for all films in its very diverse collection.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Develop the global licensing strategy with the objectives of maximizing returns for Kanopy
Work closely with the Content Marketing Director to select films
Oversee Kanopy's ''Search & Find'' business (the service for fielding and managing customer requests for titles)
Negotiate new and expanding existing license agreements with filmmakers/rights-owners and manage the ongoing relationships
Forge strong relationships with rights owners and filmmakers and designing and executing rights owner CRM plans
Design process improvements for the life cycle of acquiring films on Kanopy
Skills required:
7+ years of experience in a high-volume content licensing role
Bachelor of Film Studies or the Equivalent
Negotiating, red-lining and contractual experience is essential
Deep understanding of legal complexities in relation to content negotiations and IP law
Proven track record as a top-tier negotiator
Strong communication and organizational skills
Solid distributor relationships in the film industry
Knowledge of educational video and public library landscapes a plus
Understanding of digital product delivery and consumption
Experience with Salesforce or the equivalent
