Job Title: General Manager
Location: Kalamazoo State Theatre
Hours: Full Time - hours are variable including late nights and weekends (dependent upon show schedule)
Supervisor: Executive Director
Starting Pay Range: $75,000-89,000 base salary + benefits, based on experience
Job Summary: The General Manager (GM) will lead, organize, manage, and supervise, directly and through subordinate supervisors, the day-to-day operations of the Kalamazoo State Theatre (KST). The GM will execute the vision and strategy of the Executive Director (ED), working as a collaborative partner bringing industry knowledge and venue management best practices to the executive leadership team. The GM will work actively to and actively support and champion the values of the organization by promoting an effective and respectful culture that embraces excellent customer service, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging values for all stakeholders, including, but not limited to, staff, vendors, patrons, renters, promoters, artists, and donors. The GM leads by example, leveraging their relationship management skills and experiences in meaningful and impactful ways, to motivate others with a sense of purpose and direction while being accountable for personal and professional actions.
Requirements and Qualifications:
• BA/BS in theater, business, venue management, or related field; Master's degree encouraged.
• 4-6 years' experience serving as a senior leader within a touring entertainment venue or similar organization.
• 10+ years' experience of demonstrated work experience in entertainment, theater, music, venues, and/or related fields.
• Demonstrated understanding and passion for the performing arts and live entertainment industry.
• Expert knowledge of customer service and communication skills, oral and written, including follow-up via email and phone as demonstrated through education and/or experience is strongly preferred.
• Experience managing community venue utilization programs (venue rentals), including rental program and relationship development
• Expert knowledge of venue operations management as demonstrated through education and/or experience is strongly preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of accounting, budgeting, billing, and show settlement as demonstrated through education and/or experience is strongly preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of production and rental advancing process and contract management as demonstrated through education and/or experience is strongly preferred.
• Intermediate knowledge of principles of marketing, programming, sales, and box office management, as demonstrated through education and/or experience is preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Office suite required; familiarity with TM reporting and technology, Square POS, Credit Card processing, WordPress, Canva, and social media platforms are a plus.
• Experience managing teams to provide leadership to all KST staff by creating opportunities to coach, develop, train, and praise.
• Ability to conduct research, collect and analyze data, define potential roadblocks, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to support the success of the event and venue.
• Creative brainstorming skills, ability to take initiative, set and meet high standards.
• High level of organization and attention to detail with excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize.
• Ability to have fun, stay calm, and work with others in a sometimes stressful, fast paced, energetic environment.
• Strong work ethic, reliable and self-motivated, with an ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Must provide: email capable phone (be available via email, cell and text), valid Driver's License and reliable transportation.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms; speak loudly and clearly; hear and respond in busy and noisy environments. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and will occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include color, close, distance, and peripheral vision and depth perception.
