Head of Systems

With offices in Bournemouth (UK), Montreal (CA) and Singapore, Outpost is one of the leading high-end television and feature film visual effects studios.

We are currently looking for a Head of Systems helping us on the next part of our journey expanding the technology team and creating a global company.

As the Head of Systems, you will lead the systems team maintaining of all technical infrastructure of the studios providing capability for 150+ artists and developers. Your main responsibilities will be, but limited to developing, and maintaining the studio infrastructure, including network, servers and storage. Leading and growing a strong systems team which in turn will build a reliable, resilient and efficient platform for artists to create outstanding and awarding work.

Key requirements of the role
• Responsible for the overall health and operations of global network, storage and systems
• Administer and manage high performance storage platforms and systems
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues through excellent technical understanding of large-scale networking and routing
• Act as the senior technical contact, responsible for daily communications with multiple global systems support teams
• Proactively use monitoring tools to forecast technology areas requiring attention on ongoing basis
• Identify and remediate storage or network bottlenecks, infrastructure-wide
• Ensure the timely and successful completion of all data backups
• Understand and manage the maintenance of data centre power and cooling systems
• Perform technology purchasing and budget tracking
• Manage software licenses from forecasting to deployment
• Manage and maintaining local vendor relationships
• Guide operations staff surrounding technology issues
• Lead and develop a team of system administrators
• Manage large scale projects
• Provide user support

Must haves
• 7-10 years of experience working with IT infrastructure in a media or high-performance computing environment
• Extensive experience with Linux (CentOS preferred)
• In depth knowledge of network services including DNS, DHCP, NIS, NFS, etc.
• Strong shell scripting skills
• Experience with virtualization (VMware)
• In depth knowledge of IP networks, sub netting and routing
• Experience building out simple but resilient networks
• Experience specifying, deploying and supporting large scale and high-performance network storage across multiple sites
