This is a Full Time Job
KCCI-TV, the Hearst Television station in Des Moines, has an opening for Sports Director. This position will lead our sports team and our sports coverage in a sports-crazy state. From the Big Ten Iowa Hawkeyes to the Big 12's Iowa State Cyclones to the Triple-A Iowa Cubs to frenzied state high school tournaments located in Des Moines, KCCI is looking for a strong communicator both on-the-air and within our newsroom. Strong anchor skills, excellent live shot ability, and a commitment to visual storytelling that appeals to more than avid sports fans – are all required in this position.
Job Responsibilities:
• Organize sports coverage, sports staff members, and communicate well with the rest of the news department.
• Anchor sports content in weekday evening newscasts.
• Plan and execute sports specials previewing major events.
• Develop contacts within the local sports community and make a commitment to breaking important sports stories before the competition.
• Contribute video, pictures and text to our digital platforms throughout the day.
• Develop a loyal following on social media and engage personally with sports fans.
• Appear on behalf of the station at community events.
• Develop a sports coverage plan and execute a strategy to enhance the station's sports image.
• Work flexible shifts, filling in where necessary.
Experience
Requirements:
• Previous sports anchor experience at a commercial television station is a must. This is not a job for beginners.
• Demonstrated ability to do active, engaged and interesting live shots.
• Demonstrated success in digital and social media platforms.
• Ability to shoot and edit sports video.
• Your demo reel should be indicative of your daily work.
Qualifications
Requirements:
• A college degree in journalism or communications.
• Military training or experience will be considered.
• Can work in all weather conditions and can carry up to 50 pounds.
• A valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Experience anchoring sports at a commercial TV station.
