Job Purpose: To be responsible for directing the special episodes of the TV talk-show Behind the Spotlight. Drastically different from regular episodes, our special episodes will feature a documentary style and provide a broader picture of specific fields of the Hollywood film industry through an in-depth exploration of certain institutions, corporations, and organizations.
Program profile:
Behind the Spotlight - Putting a spotlight on the True Masters Behind the Scenes - from distinguished Hollywood executives to the countless Below the Line crew, this show provides an in-depth profile of Hollywood's masters in a documentary style. Each episode comprises of one-on-one interviews with knowledgeable Hollywood individuals. Through these interviews, the show provides a comprehensive exploration of filmmaking. The show mainly targets fervent Chinese movie-lovers and professionals in the Chinese film market, hoping to be a source of inspiration for these particular demographics.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Getting involved in the early planning stages for the production.
• Developing a filming style, identifying topics to be covered, and overseeing scripts.
• Deciding on filming locations that will help tell the story and identifying significant events that are scheduled to occur during filming.
• Communicating a clear vision for the film to the crew and developing a detailed budget for the film.
• Overseeing the whole filming process on set, such as setting up cameras and angles, being ready to change plans flexibly, pre-interviewing participants, etc.
• Overseeing the actual editing and post-production of the film.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree required in related field, such as Directing, Film Production, Film Studies. Advanced degree preferred.
• At least 2+ years documentary directing experience. Documentary producing, editing, screenwriting and/or photography experience helpful.
• Proficient in speaking, writing and listening BOTH English & Chinese (Mandarin)
• Must be able to complete the project in Los Angeles, CA
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate and lead a team.
