SUMMARY/POSITION OVERVIEW
The VP, Content Acquisitions plays a key leadership role in content-licensing efforts for the ad-supported linear network and digital platform. Working closely with the SVP of Programming as the top-level position, this role has full accountability for the task of acquiring quality, branded content with the skills and experience to conduct complex, high profile negotiations that supports strategic scheduling strategies that will maximize ratings and revenue potential in all dayparts. The VP must set an example of working effectively and respectfully with colleagues at all levels.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Acquisitions:
Takes the lead on high level negotiations with studios and independent content providers.
Initiates and establishes strategic relationships with studios and major content distributors to achieve and expand our programming content and (distribution) goals across multiple platforms.
Leads a research team to track and evaluate potential content opportunities to drive scheduling strategies.
Oversees the creative packaging, TV formatting and overall processing of all content for linear and distribution, reviews and coordinates contract preparations between Legal Affairs, SVP of Programming and Content Title Management.
Directs subordinates who oversee assigned program acquisitions and scheduling activities.
Translates corporate programming strategies into short-term and long-term acquisitions.
This role requires a high level of collaboration across many internal teams: Coordinate programming strategies with multiple internal departments such as Research, Content Title Management, Scheduling, Ad Sales, Finance, Marketing, Legal & Business Affairs, Network Operations and external content providers.
Responsible for preparing all associated annual budgets and monthly budget analysis.
Oversees content screening for branding, reformatting, evaluation and analysis.
Studies ratings and lagging indicators.
Attends Markets, Programming Conventions and Festivals as requested with a special emphasis on seeking out new content, distributor relationships and producers.
Develops support materials and communications such as fact sheets and detailed program descriptions. Creates tracking status reports and presentations for meetings and management.
Network Scheduling:
Implements and oversees the scheduling strategies (''Flights'') for all movie program content - working closely with SVP of Programming and Director of Scheduling.
Oversees distribution of programming information and communication to Network's internal departments including: Research, Legal & Business Affairs, Finance, Communications & Marketing.
Budgets/ Financials:
Works with SVP of Programming, Finance, Legal and Network Management in preparation of annual Programming Acquisitions budget.
Oversees the set up and monitoring of payment schedules for Acquired content.
Assists in monitoring Monthly Budget Reports, As Runs and Financials.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 5-7 years of cable TV network experience in acquisitions that includes a strong background in the television and movie industry, content sales or distribution.
Bachelor's degree in Film, Television Production, Business or related field, or commiserate experience preferred.
Expert knowledge of the film industry, linear television market, and the digital-distribution landscape, with command of market- and competitive analysis and the ability to strategically assess opportunities and make data-driven decisions.
Established industry relationships with studios, independent content providers and producers.
Demonstrated experience in managing teams and leading complex, high-stakes deals.
Superb communication, presentation, persuasion, and diplomatic skills.
Thrive in a hard-working, collaborative environment.
Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments at once while monitoring timelines and adjusting work as needed to achieve incredible success.
Must possess strong project management, communication and quantitative/qualitative analytical skills.
Highly proficient in a Microsoft Office environment including PowerPoint and Excel.
Ability to meet short deadlines with minimal supervision and prioritize and organize effectively and efficiently.
Detail oriented and a team player with the ability to work with all levels of management.
Proven leadership in setting and achieving goals.
