IndieWire: Social Media Assistant (Full-Time Temporary)
IndieWire is hiring a New York or Los Angeles-based Social Media Assistant to help maintain and expand the brand’s suite of social media accounts. This role requires a social media-savvy individual with sharp writing skills, knowledge of the Film and TV industries and related trends, and a keen visual eye.
You will be responsible for assisting the Senior Social Media Manager in supporting IndieWire on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other channels. You’ll pitch creative ideas for interactive social initiatives and story promotion and pick up news stories in real time to share on social. Basic graphic design skills are a major plus, as you will assist in creating images for the site and social feeds.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can quickly learn the tone and flavor of the IndieWire brand, and has a deep understanding of how to translate stories to social networks. Key to your success is consuming social media with an eye toward tracking entertainment trends, paired with the ability to recognize when a swell in online chatter could point to the opportunity for a story.
Responsibilities:
• Assisting the Senior Social Media Manager in writing, editing, and posting content published on IndieWire.com across the brand’s social media accounts.
• Updating/pitching ideas for interactive and visually engaging content rollouts
• Copywriting and calendar creation.
• Work with the Manager to build monthly analytics reports to measure social growth/performance.
• Based on social insights, pitch on-site editorial content that could expand engagement and audience.
• Identifying news pegs and opportunities to promote archival news stories, interviews, and videos.
• Additional duties as assigned by the direct manager.
Job Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Journalism, Communications, or Marketing
• 2-3 years of experience in social media required
• Deep knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest
• Familiarity and experience with Canva and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign and Photoshop)
• Willing to work some nights and weekends to cover awards shows and live events.
Strongly Desired:
• Demonstrated passion for social media and audience acquisition.
• Proven ability to grow a loyal following on social media.
• Strong graphic design skills.
• Demonstrated taste and judgment
• An eye for aesthetics that can strengthen IndieWire’s visual brand.
