The Director of Royalties, Residuals and Participations serves as the internal business contact for all royalties receivables and residuals and participations obligations for the IM Global film, television and music divisions. This position is the key role in the aggregation, collection accounting, management, analysis, interpretation, reporting of all royalties, union residuals, and participation obligations as well as the budget/forecast reporting and accrual accounting (GAAP) related thereto.
Responsibilities include managing the day-to-day operations of statement preparation, review and analysis of contract terms, collection of all royalties due, processing of payment obligations to third party participants, providing estimates of royalties/residuals/participations to all relevant personnel, recommending royalties audits, and managing participations or residuals audits as they arise.
Key Responsibilities:
• Analyze revenue and expense activity and research discrepancies and fluctuations by gathering all necessary supporting documents for complete audit trail documentation.
• Prepare financial models to incorporate into the budget/forecast process, including annual planning, greenlight analysis, budget-to-actual post-mortem analysis, and other ad hoc projects as required by management.
• No less than quarterly, review estimated ultimate revenue and expenses prepared in accordance with the film-forecast computation method to propose royalties, participation and residual accounting accrual entries.
• Decipher contractual digests/abstracts, legal agreements and other related written correspondence.
• Ensure contractual reporting obligations are met accurately and timely.
• Recommend and manage audits (of IM Global and third parties).
• Propose accounting provisions within legal agreements for Business Affairs team.
• Modify royalties, statement and participation systems as needed.
• Retrieve all required residual data from each production for accurate submission to the payroll services company for residual set ups.
• Provide the payroll company with receipts information by product, by reuse market and territory for all scripted owned productions for residuals invoicing.
• Manage relationship with local paying/payroll agents, and US and International guilds and applicable PHW plans ensuring timely and accurate payments throughout.
• Stay current on changes in the various US and International collective Bargaining Agreements.
• Prepare timely estimates for Sales, Production, and Management when requested.
Qualification Requirements
• Strong royalties, participation and residuals specific knowledge with core technical systems and applications.
• Adept at deciphering legal agreements.
• In-depth knowledge of residuals and union agreements is essential.
• Accrual accounting knowledge.
• 3 to 5 years previous royalties, residuals, participations, accounting, audit and financial related experienced required.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Successful management and leadership skills.
• Excellent computer skills; primarily strong knowledge of Excel.
Salary (yearly wage), discretionary bonus, medical, dental, vision, retirement plan for benefits. Sick and vacation time. Compensation dependent upon experience.
