The Assistant Editor under general supervision of the Lead Assistant Editor and Production Coordinator is responsible for preparing and organizing projects materials through all stages of the digital, non-linear video editing process. Including creating Avid projects, digitizing media, importing graphics, creating media logs and the exporting of the media files and sequences to video tape. Additional responsibilities will include aiding in management of the Isis Storage server and other storage servers. On occasion, this position may require the performance of basic editing responsibilities, troubleshooting of technical issues concerning graphics and original footage and audio elements.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Work directly with in-house Producers/Production Coordinator to prepare promos for the post production process Examples include:
Logging footage, naming and organizing clips and bins.
Includes: features, dailies, selects, music, graphics, sound effects, visual effects etc.
Restoring sequences and media from project archives
Conforming and laying off finished sequences to tape and/or exporting for file conversion
Creating electronic slates in support of edit sessions
Utilize media conversion software to create a variety of compression formats for distribution
Communicate with Producers/Production Coordinator when any step requested has been completed
Provide secondary editorial support including, but not limited to:
Familiarizing themselves to the material to understand sequence or to overcut new material.
Project output
FTP transfer to/from edit systems
Quicktime conversions
Responsible for technical quality for all audio and video elements prepared in the edit suite. Examples include:
Receive technical specification requirements and delivery requirements
Monitor all technical aspects of digitizing and layoff process and maintain professional quality control standard
Operate multi-format VTR's, routers and shared storage media network
Troubleshoot technical discrepancies and provide corrective measures to remedy problems
Assist in daily and weekly maintenance procedures involving the media storage device and equipment. Tasks include:
Deleting media
Archiving - Backing up projects and files
Periodic maintenance of machine room and racked equipment
Qualifications & Skills:
Must have working knowledge of: FTP, AVID, ISIS, Quicktime Pro and basic computer file systems. Minimum of two years of assistant editing experience. Knowledge of: machine room, general network storage, waveform monitors, vector scopes and professional videotape formats.
