Summary:
The Houston Astros are currently seeking a Dominican Academy Manager in the Player Development Department. Serving as a uniformed coach at our Dominican Academy in San Antonio de Guerra, DR (just outside of Santo Domingo), the Dominican Academy Manager will work in conjunction with our Fundamentals Coordinator, Academy Coordinator, and Academy staff (Pitching Coaches, Hitting Coaches, Strength Coaches & Athletic Trainers) to develop and execute an optimized daily team schedule while being responsible for player development in the areas of infield/outfield/catching defense and baserunning.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities:
The Minor League Manager will be expected to:
• Oversee the implementation of the organization's fundamentals curriculum at the Academy
• Collaborate with the Academy Pitching Coaches, Hitting Coaches, Strength Coaches and Athletic Trainers to make sure that needs are being met in each area
• Breakdown and review video of fundamentals
• Design individual development plans for position players
• Communicate plans, goals and progress with relevant staff members during process
• Periodically complete and update reports on internal systems
• Assist other field staff when able and necessary with normal day to day operations at the affiliate (throw BP, hit fungoes, monitor pitchers, etc.)
Requirements / Qualifications:
• Ability to understand and advocate for changes due to new information and or tools in baseball
• Ability to work and communicate well with people in a wide variety of roles including players, coaches and front office
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Fluency in Spanish is not required but strongly preferred. If not proficient, a strong willingness to work towards proficiency is required
• Proficient in basic use of computers including Microsoft Office
• Professional or collegiate playing experience is a plus
Additional Requirements / Qualifications:
• Ability to operate a computer proficiently
• Ability to throw and catch
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time as well as bending, sitting in a catcher's squat, reaching, throwing, and swinging a bat.
• Visual acuity to distinguish pitches and facilitate instruction.
• Ability to work both indoors and outdoors.

• January Camp (Mon-Fri):
• January 21st through March 5th
• March Camp (Mon-Fri):
• March 10th through April 3rd
• Dominican Summer League Pre-Season (Mon-Sat half-day):
• April 14th through May 31st
• Dominican Summer League (Mon-Sat):
• June 1st through August 24th
• Break: July 19th through July 26th
• Dominican Instructional League (Mon-Fri):
• September 15th through November 1st
Program Dates Remaining in 2021 (dates are approximate):
• Extended Spring Training Build Up (Mon-Sat half-day):
• April 12th through April 30th
• Dominican Summer League Pre-Season (Mon-Sat half-day):
• May 10th through July 11th
• Dominican Summer League (Mon-Sat):
• July 12th through October 2nd
• Break: October 3rd through October 10th
• Dominican Instructional League (Mon-Fri):
• October 11th through November 15th
