Summary:
The Houston Astros are currently seeking a Dominican Academy Hitting Coach in the Player Development Department. This hitting coach will reside in the Dominican Republic and work with one other hitting coach to execute the hitting development program for Academy players (approximate program dates below).
Essential Duties / Responsibilities:
The Dominican Academy Hitting Coach will be expected to:
• Implement organizational hitting development program
• Plan daily hitting practice while coordinating with other members of the field staff.
• Analyze hitter performance using tools, reports and technology
• Prescribe and monitor a development plan for each hitter based on areas of opportunity.
• Collaborate with affiliate Strength Coach and Performance Apprentice to identify and act on solutions related to physical limitations/opportunities
• Communicate plans, goals and progress with players and relevant staff members throughout checkpoints
• Assist other field staff when able and necessary with normal day to day operations at the Academy (throwing BP, Pitching fungoes, etc.)
Requirements / Qualifications:
• Ability to understand and advocate for changes due to new information and or tools in baseball
• Ability to work and communicate well with people in a wide variety of roles including players, coaches and front office
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Fluency in Spanish is not required but strongly preferred. If not proficient, a strong willingness to work towards proficiency is required
• Proficient in basic use of computers including Microsoft Office
• Professional or collegiate playing experience is a plus
• Strength & conditioning related degree is a plus
Additional Requirements / Qualifications:
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time as well as bending, reaching, throwing, and swinging a bat.
• Ability to work both indoors and outdoors.

• January Camp (Mon-Fri):
• January 21st through March 5th
• March Camp (Mon-Fri):
• March 10th through April 3rd
• Dominican Summer League Pre-Season (Mon-Sat half-day):
• April 14th through May 31st
• Dominican Summer League (Mon-Sat):
• June 1st through August 24th
• Break: July 19th through July 26th
• Dominican Instructional League (Mon-Fri):
• September 15th through November 1st
Program Dates Remaining in 2021 (dates are approximate):
• Extended Spring Training Build Up (Mon-Sat half-day):
• April 12th through April 30th
• Dominican Summer League Pre-Season (Mon-Sat half-day):
• May 10th through July 11th
• Dominican Summer League (Mon-Sat):
• July 12th through October 2nd
• Break: October 3rd through October 10th
• Dominican Instructional League (Mon-Fri):
• October 11th through November 15th
