Summary
The Facilities Assistant supports the day-to-day upkeep and smooth operation of the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center. This part-time position assists with building maintenance, event set-ups, and routine inspections to ensure that all facilities are safe, clean, and welcoming for patrons, performers, and staff. The Facilities Assistant provides essential support to the Facilities team and other departments to keep operations running smoothly in a live entertainment environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Maintenance & Upkeep
Perform basic building maintenance, including light repairs, bulb replacements, and seasonal tasks (e.g., snow removal, exterior upkeep).
Monitor and report facility issues requiring repair or vendor attention.
Maintain tools and supply inventory in an orderly fashion.
Event & Operational Support
Assist with set-up and breakdown for performances, private events, and meetings, including moving furniture, equipment, tables, and signage.
Support custodial functions when needed (trash removal, light cleaning, restocking).
Conduct routine inspections of backstage and public spaces for safety, cleanliness, and functionality.

Qualifications

General knowledge of maintenance tools and equipment.
Ability to lift, move, and carry up to 50 lbs. and work on ladders or in physically active settings.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and irregular hours.
Education and/or Experience
Prior experience in facilities, building maintenance, or event support preferred.
Experience in a performing arts or live event environment a plus.
Communication Skills
Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to communicate clearly with supervisors, co-workers, and event staff.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
Stand, walk, climb, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Work at heights (ladders, lifts) safely.

Work Environment
Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor settings.
Employee may occasionally be exposed to loud noise, weather conditions, and moving equipment.
Evening and weekend work is required.
