WTAE-TV, the Hearst-owned ABC affiliate in Pittsburgh, PA has an opening for a strong, take-charge news producer who is ready to take charge of Pittsburgh's #1 weekend morning newscasts. The ideal candidate must be a creative thinker and will have a track record of being aggressive with breaking news and severe weather, with the ability to make decisions and communicate the plan in a clear, concise manner. Exceptional writing skills and the ability to make sound news coverage decisions are musts. Should be proficient in the use of Twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms and apps to post and find stories, track breaking news and to connect with viewers. Candidates must be fast and calm under pressure and able to play well in a room of same-minded pros.
Job Responsibilities
• Selecting and finding enterprising content for weekend morning newscasts
• Be able to quickly react to breaking news during off hours and respond with appropriate coverage decisions
• Strong skills in the booth communicating and executing a creative vision with a team of anchors, meteorologists, photojournalists, editors and production staff
Experience Requirements:
• Prior producing experience in a television newsroom preferred
• Knowledge of ENPS is ideal
• Military experience in a related occupation specialty will be considered
Qualifications Requirements:
• Must be available to work holidays, shifts that include nights, weekends and overnights, and flexible with schedule to be available during breaking news
• Deal with the stresses and pressures of time-sensitive newscast production
• Must be well-versed in local and national news stories
• Able to learn how to post stories to the station's digital and social media platforms
• Excellent writing, spelling, grammar and copy-editing skills
• Ability to multi-task and coordinate several crews and responsibilities simultaneously.
• An ability to summarize information into easy-to-understand components
• Creative presentation style, and ability to showcase all resources and elements
• Unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards
Education:
• Bachelors degree in broadcast journalism, broadcast news, or related field preferred
• Military training from Defense Information School (DINFOS) with associated producing experience will be considered
