This is a Part Time Unpaid Internship
Interns in the News Department get a variety of opportunities:
• Go out to the field and shadow crews
• Take notes at courtroom proceedings
• Answer phones, learn police/scanner codes and how to gather information for a possible news story
• Get the chance to see the inner workings of the news department and learn what it takes to cover/research
• Learn how to edit, photograph and produce, write and edit a VO
• Write and edit a VSot, and track a package
• Learn to operate robotic cameras and studio floor directing
• Understand lighting grid and control board to maintain proper programming.
• Dress microphone's and IFB's for all on camera appearances
• Applicant should have basic multi-media computer skill and familiarity with current Internet technology including downloading of materials for promos and commercial client spots
• Must be able capable of following instructions, verbally and written
• In-person attendance is required
Interns in the Creative Service Department get a variety of opportunities:
• Explore broadcast and digital marketing and learn the responsibilities of the Creative Services Department
• Be exposed to Hearst Television executive management (i.e. virtual coffee and learns, panels, etc.)
• Be exposed to a fast-paced newsroom and the newsroom operations
• Gain an overview of the technical areas of the station (News Edit, ENG Receive, Microwave News Gathering, Satellite News Gathering, News Photography, Studio Operations, Control Room Operations, Air Operations, Maintenance, IT, etc.)
Interns in the Engineering Department will also get a variety of opportunities:
• Support user needs across all departments, including News, Creative Services, Sales and Administration
• Maintain imaging machines, updating firmware and managing hardware inventory
• Assist the IT Manager with systems upgrades and new platform deployments
• Maintain LAN/IT infrastructure, installation and support of network hardware and software
• Work with engineering and IT management and staff to support important on-air systems and workflows including news, production and broadcast systems and equipment
