Hearst Television is seeking a creative editorial expert with strong organizational and management skills and a collaborative approach to leadership to help develop and execute Hearst Television's groupwide initiatives and special projects. A key responsibility of this role will be to evolve and expand our successful established initiatives, ie: Project CommUNITY and Hearst's Award Winning Political ''Commitment'' coverage, while helping to generate new ideas. The person in this job will provide editorial guidance and operational leadership for our group units, including the Hearst Television Washington DC Bureau, National Investigative Unit and National Consumer Unit. The ideal candidate will have experience working on investigative content and generating ideas that will resonate with a diverse audience to best serve our markets located across all regions of the country. The candidate must be able to adapt quickly to changing news needs and to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
The Director, Special Projects and Group Initiatives will report to the Senior Vice President, News and work closely with other corporate team members and station news leadership. They will be based at our office located in Washington, DC.
Responsibilities:
• Guide and evaluate content & operational needs of our established and future units producing content for the group to include:
• Washington DC Bureau
• National Investigative Unit
• National Consumer Unit
• Develop and drive multi-platform execution of group-wide content initiatives
• Identify opportunities for group collaboration/programming, targeting regional and groupwide special programming opportunities
• Further develop and expand internal content sharing system
• Coordinate production of group videos
• Oversee and track groupwide award entries
• Manage and improve unit budgets
• Review personnel
Qualifications:
• Minimum 5 years working in news operation, local news experience preferred
• Demonstrated passion for storytelling and news
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• Outstanding organizational and leadership skills
• Proven experience in a managerial position
• Ability to adapt quickly to changing needs of news
• Investigative journalism experience a plus
Education:
• Bachelor's Degree in Broadcast Journalism or related field preferred.
• Related military training from Defense Information School (DINFOS) and related experience will be considered.
