Director, News Talent Recruitment
Hearst Television is seeking a Director, News Talent Recruitment to help identify top talent to join our industry leading news operations. The ideal candidate will have a great eye for on-camera talent, a deep understanding of all the positions that make up today's local newsroom and a proven track record of thoroughly vetting candidates. We seek an experienced recruiter with a strong foundation in the creation and implementation of strategies to source and recruit from diverse communities working across all HTV business units. This position reports to the Senior Vice President, News. Location is US-based and flexible.
Duties:
• Take over and evaluate current recruitment database; build upon current or develop new system for most efficient tracking of internal and external candidates
• Build & maintain relationships with strong external candidates
• Coach and mentor developing talent through regular reviews
• Manage and distribute list of job openings
• Co-ordinate introductions to appropriate newsroom leaders for placement of best candidates
• Coordinate minority & specialty convention recruiting (NABJ, NAHJ, AAJA, IRE, EIJ/RTDNA/SPJ, NLGJA, BEA/NAB)
• Strengthen relationships with best journalism schools; Identify and build relationships with other strong programs
o Coordinate current university career fair recruiting
o Expand university outreach
o Establish 'company day' at select universities (like Missouri approach)
o Explore partnerships with schools turning out best on-camera journalists
• Track internal movements/promotions; provide bi-annual update (or upon request)
• Track top Hearst Journalism Award winners & best Emma Bowen performers; act quickly to get top talent in front of right news leaders
• Track and assist in management of agent relationships; produce annual list
• Manage Fred Young Producer Fellowship Program
o Work with schools to encourage best applicants
o Identify 2-4 fellows 2x/year
o Assist in placement
o Monitor progress
o Track & prepare annual review material
• Work closely with HR communicating hiring processes, etc.
• Assist News VPs in select training efforts
