Full Time Job
Hearst Television is looking for an Alert Curator who will be responsible for reviewing traffic coming from police, fire and other official department communications to enhance our digital offerings via hyper-local push notifications. Candidates should have experience working in a newsroom and be able to source, verify and write short articles about incidents and information under deadline. The ideal candidate will have previous digital experience at a media organization, be a multi-tasker who can communicate and write effectively, as well as handle the fast pace of a newsroom and breaking news.
Job Responsibilities:
• Monitor multiple scanner feeds for stories of interest and breaking news
• Verify information heard on scanners and inform newsroom of information as necessary
• Write and send hyper-local push notifications to digital audience
• Other duties as required
Experience Requirements:
• Familiar with local newsgathering technology and terminology
• Previous digital writing/editing experience preferred
• Experience with web-based CMS and/or other web-based UIs
• Understanding of analytics and how to use implement learnings for improved results
Qualifications Requirements:
• Strong news and editorial judgment
• Must be polite and professional when dealing with the public
• Must be organized and able to multi-task
• Excellent communication skills
• Previous digital writing/editing experience preferred
• Ability to remain calm and level-headed during breaking news situations
• Willing to work a variety of shifts including weekends and nights
Education:
• College Degree in Journalism or relevant experience in a related field
• Military experience is a plus
