About the role:
With more than 3,000 employees across the nation, Hearst Newspapers publishes 24 dailies and 52 weeklies, including the Houston Chronicle, San Francisco Chronicle, San Antonio Express-News and Albany Times Union. It also operates digital marketing services and directories businesses under the LocalEdge brand.
We are looking for an experienced Product leader to work closely with our Design and Engineering leadership to build Hearst Newspapers next generation digital products and capabilities. This position will report to Hearst Newspaper's Chief Product Officer and will partner with key executives across Editorial, Sales, Business and Marketing to help achieve key business outcomes.
Responsibilities:
Lead the product and program management functions at Hearst Newspapers.
Partner with the Chief Product Officer, who is responsible for setting the Group's product vision, in developing a product strategy and execution plan that is inline overarching company priorities.
Partner with the Head of Engineering and Head of Design & UX to manage and optimize how our Product Development teams work and collaborate with one another to effectively execute against our business priorities.
Establish and maintain the roadmap for the entire group, drive prioritization decisions and ensure they align with their strategic imperatives.
Help define goals and KPIs for short-term and long-term results and drive the team to achieve them
Maintain a pulse on the existing product development backlog and ensure that the team is focused and executing efficiently and with quality.
Communicate a clear vision to the teams, peers, stakeholders and senior executives in a way that simplifies complexity and generates excitement.
Maintain strong relationships with key business partners and senior executives to ensure product plans are aligned with company objectives/plans.
Represent the Product function both internally and externally, promoting the products and the teams that build them.
Maintain a deep understanding of consumer behaviors, the competitive landscape and technology trends to shape strategic decisions, plans and priorities.
Develop a strong product management practice and lead a team of world-class product and program managers through mentorship, coaching, recruiting and day-to-day oversight.
Qualifications:
Entrepreneurial approach to problem solving and demonstrated ability to juggle multiple priorities and make things happen in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
A bias toward action and can break down complex problems into steps that drive product development.
Strong analytical and quantitative skills; ability to use hard data and metrics to back up assumptions and feature concepts.
An understanding of how to navigate the trade-offs necessary to ship quality products on predictable timelines
A proven collaborator with experience working in highly cross-functional and matrixed organizations, including working with executives and senior leadership across multiple departments
Excellent communication and influencing skills; specifically, the ability to tell the story of the product vision, strategy and roadmap.
A strong perspective on how to cultivate a product culture including the tools and process that help people do their best work while accomplishing business imperatives, including a track record hiring, leading and managing productive product teams.
A knowledge of the constantly evolving media industry, publishing landscape and the underlying media platforms, like publishing, advertising and marketing technologies and a curiosity about where it's headed.
