Would you like to learn more about arts journalism and criticism while working with world-class journalists at a digital media company seeking to reinvent the way it covers news and reaches readers?
The San Francisco Chronicle seeks to create a pipeline for the next generation of arts journalists with a summer internship program for aspiring critics. These writers share the company's commitment and dedication to promoting diversity, multiculturalism, and inclusion, and bring with them unique experiences and backgrounds.
The position will be based with Datebook, our guide to arts and entertainment in the Bay Area. In this paid, full-time 12-week summer program, the intern will receive training and mentoring by some of the best arts journalists in the business, covering film, music, theater and more. You'll learn to pitch ideas to editors, conduct interviews with sources and write a variety of stories - from critic's picks and news briefs to enterprise stories - with the goal of publishing several full-length features and reviews by the internship's conclusion. We are looking for someone with high standards, curiosity and empathy who can collaborate and is comfortable providing and taking feedback.
All Bay Area college students, including community college students or students who will have recently completed their associate's or bachelor's degree, are encouraged to apply.

This position is based in San Francisco. Weekend, evening, and holiday work may be required as events warrant. The application deadline is Oct. 14, 2022.?
Duties:
• Receive training and mentoring from editors and colleagues across departments.
• Report and write news articles for The Chronicle and datebook.sfchronicle.com that reflect the diversity of the arts and audiences in the Bay Area.
What we're looking for:
• Overall: Someone who believes in the arts, is hungry to chase stories that haven't been told yet and is eager to develop skills that engage readers through compelling headlines, visuals, graphics and other multimedia. Strong writing skills are important, as is a dedication to accuracy, fairness and inclusiveness.
• Newsroom experience: Strong college publication experience or previous internships preferred, but not required.
