Digital Design Intern, Summer 2023
Would you like to learn more about design at a digital media company seeking to reinvent the way it covers news and reaches readers??
The San Francisco Chronicle is looking for a creative digital designer or motion graphic artist to join our team for summer 2023. Our summer journalism internships typically begin in June and last through August. We're looking for candidates with a good balance of design and coding skills and/or illustration and animation skills, who share the Company's commitment to promoting diversity, multiculturalism, and inclusion and bring with them unique experiences and backgrounds. This paid full-time 12-week internship typically lasts from June to August, but there is some flexibility to accommodate college schedules.??
Responsibilities & Duties:?
You will help us tell our newsroom's stories in innovative digital-first presentations. The designer or artist will collaborate with reporters, editors, developers and our creative directors to elevate our best content while showcasing the talents of our graphic artists, data reporters, photographers and videographers. The intern will receive training and mentoring from editors and colleagues across departments, and work and train within a cohort of more than a dozen summer interns.
What we're looking for:
• Candidates should be working toward a degree in journalism and/or design.?
• Knowledge of HTML, CSS, GitHub, JavaScript, Figma, Ai2html, Adobe Creative Suite, React.
• Experience with Archie is a plus
• Data visualization skills are a plus.
• Illustration and animation skills are a plus.
• Print design experience is a plus.
