Sports Designer
We're looking for an ambitious, creative, and deadline-driven visual journalist to join the San Francisco Chronicle's design team to specialize in sports. We're looking for a multi-tool graphic designer who will work closely with section editors and the photo team to make the most of the day's content. We're looking for someone who will be nimble on deadline as games come down to the buzzer or roll into extra innings. We're seeking a self-starter with high standards who has excellent communication skills, is comfortable providing and taking feedback, and will work closely with our creative directors to target opportunities for elevated digital and print presentations. This person will have the opportunity to collaborate with a team of developers, graphic artists, data reporters, photographers, and videographers to execute both print and digital designs and create static and interactive graphics, diagrams, animations, and illustrations.
Duties:
• Design the daily Sporting Green print section.
• Identify, coordinate and design special sections.
• Contribute to the digital design of enterprise stories.
• Potentially create graphics and illustrations.
Who we're looking for:
• At least 3 years' newsroom experience, preferably associated with sports coverage
• Bachelor's or master's degree, journalism or design/development focus preferred
• Basic copy-editing skills preferred
• Command of the Adobe suite
• Experience with Cue pagination system a plus
• Data visualization and coding experience a plus
• Illustration skills a plus
Requirements:
• This position is full-time.
• Weekend and evening work will be required.
