Social Video Producer
The Houston Chronicle is seeking a creative and digitally savvy Social Video Producer to join our Audience team. The ideal candidate will primarily be responsible for editing short-form video content for all of our social platforms, including YouTube, Instagram and TikTok. They will work collaboratively with our Visuals staff to create videos that will connect with millions of readers in one of the largest, most diverse cities in the country.
The ideal candidate is a visual storyteller who thrives on breaking news, trending topics and engaging content. You should be skilled in editing on the fly and eager to experiment with new formats to help grow our presence and voice on social media.
What the Social Video Producer will do:
• Edit social video packages that engage readers and reflect the voice of the Chronicle.
• Post to proper channels, ensuring videos have correct tags, title, descriptions and adhere to SEO best practices.
• Research, pitch and produce timely, fascinating and impactful videos that reach a wide audience.
• Continuously test new video formats, tools, and approaches to grow engagement and reach new audiences.
• Effectively collaborate with Visual, Audience and Content teams.
• Stay plugged into local/breaking news, with a laser focus on video and social content.
• Use analytics and audience insights to shape content decisions and track performance, learning what works and why.
What it will take to be successful:
• 1-3 years of experience creating social video, preferably in a newsroom environment.
• Mastery in quick-turn social video editing for platforms like TikTok, IG and YouTube.
• Proficiency in CapCut, Canva, Adobe Premiere, and motion graphics.
• Has strong visual storytelling instincts, with a knack for framing, pacing, and compelling hooks.
• Passion for exploring new techniques in audience development and willingness to learn and utilize new and existing forms of tracking digital analytics to guide content decisions
• Fast, organized, technical problem solver able to consistently meet deadlines
• Enjoys working in teams and has excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule for breaking news and special content opportunities.
Requirements:
• This is a full time, hybrid position that requires candidates to be in the office three days per week.
• Weekend and evening work may be required as warranted.
• Successful candidates must be based in the Houston area or willing to relocate
