Your Impact:
Under the direction of SFGATE's Newsletter Editor, the Newsletter/Social Media Producer will work with our digital team to increase circulation of our content through our two most power owned channels: our Newsletters and Social Media accounts. You'll be asked to build compelling newsletters that mirror the SFGATE voice, and produce consistent open rates and clicks. You'll also be asked to demonstrate your ability to increase the reach of a story through our social channels (specifically Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook) and consistently post at a high level, demonstrating expertise at not only grammar and style, but also in getting people to actually click on a post. You'll also need to understand analytics for both newsletter and social media and lean into things that are working and away from things that aren't.
What you'll do:
- Write, build and edit newsletter across disciplines, whether they be regional (Tahoe, California Parks), interest-based (Sports), or Editor Picks
- Produce copy that exhibits excellent English language skills and deep knowledge of grammar and style rules
- Be able to critically analyze email subject line open rate performance and link click performance and make changes to your approach based on what you learn
- Be an active and engaged Twitter, Facebook and Instagram user yourself who understands the eccentricities of each
- Be able to drive significant traffic from our owned channels and signal boost stories shared by our writers
- Be exceptionally creative with your approach to social, and comes up with new and interesting ways to share things
- Communicate and interact professionally with culturally diverse writers, editors, and staff
- Prioritize and balance multiple projects simultaneously
- Manage time effectively and meet deadlines
- Work effectively in a small organization with an emphasis on teamwork
- Work legally in the United States
- Be able to live in/commute to the San Francisco Bay Area
Who you are:
- You have 2 to 3 years of experience in a social media or newsletter role
- You have a Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism, Creative Writing, Comparative Literature, Communications, or related fields from an accredited college or university, or equivalent, with a record that demonstrates suitable preparation for this position
- You've read SFGATE, subscribe to our newsletters, and follow us on social media to have an understanding of our brand and voice
