This is a Full Time Job
This role pursues accountability reporting as a member of the Express-News investigative team. Produces deeply reported stories on how elected and appointed officials and public institutions are exercising their public trust. Subject matter is wide-ranging, encompassing city and county government, public schools, law enforcement, the environment and more. I-team members, although focused on investigative work, are sometimes asked to write breaking news stories as the need arises.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Generate accountability stories about elected and appointed officials and public institutions in San Antonio and Bexar County
• Pursue stories, engage in reporting and research and submit Public Records Act requests
• Producing accountability reporting that is clear, impactful, persuasive, and understandable
What are the measures of success for this position:
Accountability reporting that has an impact and makes the public aware of important things it did not know
Experience, Qualifications, Technical Requirements, Education:
• Bachelor's Degree is required
• 3 - 5 years' experience as a reporter is required
• Record of accountability reporting, whether or not with a formal I-team is required
• Basic data reporting and data management skills required
• Conversational Spanish language skills preferred
• Critical thinking skills required
• Ability to write cleanly and clearly required
