Group Controller Newspaper Division
Hearst Newspapers is the operating group responsible for Hearst's newspapers, local digital marketing services businesses and directories. With more than 3,000 employees across the nation, Hearst Newspapers publishes 24 dailies and 52 weeklies, including the Houston Chronicle, Times Union (Albany, New York) and San Antonio Express-News. It also operates digital marketing services and directories businesses under the LocalEdge brand
For this newly created role we are looking for an experienced controller to guide the newspaper division's accounting operations, manage the expense budget for the centralized group functions and ensure the integrity of the control environment. This is an opportunity to join the newspaper division and support our mission as an industry leading digital and print publisher.
Responsibilities
Manage all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, Collections, Cash, GL, Payroll
Directly manage centralized accounting teams for GL, Cash Application, Collections
Responsibility for the internal control environment, coordinate with internal and external audit
Maintain and improve accounting processes
Provide technical accounting guidance & implementation (e.g. leases revenue recognition)
Manage and comply with state and local reporting requirements and tax filing (including Sales tax compliance)
Own the monthly financial close process
Lead capex budget and reporting
Manage relationship with Shared Service center in Charlotte and Business Units across the US
Lead Budgeting, forecasting and reporting for central newspaper group expense
Skills
CPA required
10 years of financial management and accounting experience ideally in digital or publishing industries
Experience managing remote teams/relationships
Passion for process improvement
Strong interpersonal, verbal, written and technical skills to build cross-functional relationships
