Full Time Job
Executive Editor for News has a broad portfolio with supervisory and strategic planning responsibilities. This position reports directly to the Publisher and works with the Managing Editor to execute Beaumont Enterprise editorial strategy.
• Works with the managing editor, section editors and associate editor to assign, edit and publish all editorial content
• Edits the news and politics sections
• Manages the editorial calendar
• Interviews editor and staff writer candidates
• Hires freelance writers
• Edits freelance submissions
• Tracks performance metrics and adapts content strategy for Chron's readership as needed
• Manages editors and writers
• Writes 1-2 stories a week
• Curates wire content as needed
Competencies Include
• Excellent news judgment and knowledge of AP Style
• Strong copy-editing skills
• Interest in and familiarity with Beaumont culture
• Interest in and familiarity with Beaumont and Texas politics
• Familiarity with Beaumont Enterprise and Golden Triangle-area and greater Texas audience
• Familiarity with the national digital media landscape
• Experience:
Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or English
At least 1-2 years of experience managing editorial teams
At least 1-2 years of digital editing experience
At least 5 years of writing experience
Experience working in a CMS
Experience with Chartbeat, Google Analytics, Looker, or other analytics tools
